Tree rooms requested gluten free. Ok. Easy. We make a crustless quiche that is always gf and vegetarian.
Oops, are there onions in the quiche? Yes. I can’t eat onions.
Ok, so we made here a couple fried eggs.
today, I am ready and make a crustless quiche with no onions. So proud of myself giving excellent customer service.
She: oh, is there cheese in the quiche? I can’t eat dairy.
Me: with a smile, of course, There is no dairy in the oatmeal and it is certified gluten free.
I asked why she hadn’t mentioned it, and she said, “I didn’t want to drive you crazy.”

Yes, the old 'we didn't want to be a bother.'
We tell everyone that we don't do a buffet. There is no 'don't worry, we'll find something to eat.'
Plus, you always prove that even doing an expanded buffet doesn't mean everyone 'finds something' to eat!

yep!

Another buffet story. Teenagers. Two boys. We made lots of pancakes and lots of bacon. Checking on the presentation I noticed the apple juice was gone so I filled it thinking to myself, I bet they drank it all.
Shortly after, yep, the two boys are sucking down the apple juice all by themselves.
A) I’m glad they enjoyed the buffet and B) there ARE other people here!

Crazy!?!?! - Too late - mission accomplished!
I have learned to hone in on the difference between - I "don't" eat... and I "can't" eat - the first one you get to pick them out - the second one means I will probably be the one calling 9-1-1 if you eat it...so I am very careful...but we just had a couple here - the lady "couldn't" eat some things and "didn't" eat others. Entrees were made without the "couldn'ts" and she was made aware of the "didn'ts" so she could pick them out. Of course her hubby ate everything...everyday - except blueberries - which he didn't mention until the third day there were here...but then he ate them in the baked berry oatmeal...???

They left without even a thank-you for accommodating their dietary needs...

I do my best to accommodate, keep certain things separate, etc... but won't make a custom meal for each person at the table...
