I occasionally peruse different OTA sites to see how our inn is being listed (most owned by Expedia, of course) and noticed on Trivago a rating the didn't correspond to ratings or reviews I have seen on many sites. They provided scores on some things that guests never mentioned in a review or scored on. I contacted Trivago and their response was they have their own algorithm to determine scores. They offered to review the ratings again and it went up! By one-tenth of a point, LOL, but still below the scores we receive elsewhere. It just seems like the algorithm is a bit random.

I think the whole website is a scam. They pull random words from different places and cobble them together to make up a description.
I've gone in several times to fix stuff. It's really a sore spot with me that some random foreign company can grab info and say it's the real story. Of course guests believe a corporation over a mom and pop business.

Don't ever sign up with them. I made that mistake once. Once.

It's majority earned by X, in case you didn't know. Though it's independent and a separate stock.
