Hi again all,
We bought our property in West Seattle. It was run as a B and B for 25 years. We are doing MAJOR remodeling/rehabbing before we try to launch. It was the Wildwood Bed & Breakfast. And it will be again! We thought about rebranding but so many people we talk to about it here have positive associations and memories. So why push the river? It occurs to me that the prior owner (now deceased) might have been on here or been known to some of you. If so I'd love to hear about her.
Major wallpaper peeling going on now! New siding, roof, windows, boiler/furnace, electrical system.
If anyone is interested we're at facebook.com/wildwoodbnb
Looking forward to lots of advice and opinions from those in the know!
Tom in Seattle

Congratulatioms!! Welcome to the club of the hardest job you will ever love.
We share joys, sorrows, problems, bitching, and total satisfactions. Welcome to the family.

Welcome to the club. After six+ years of doing this, can't imagine doing anything else. Envy you the excitement you must be feeling -- but not the hard work ahead! :)

Congratulations! It sounds like you have the passion and determination to make your dream come true!

We thought about rebranding
Welcome Tom, and good luck with your venture. To me, the beginning was exciting, then the more difficult periods as we learn through our struggles, now after many years, hopefully more highs than lows, wish I could have done this at a younger age as to me it is a great life.
To me a name is just a name, we rebrand or reinvent ourselves by how we operate our business, slower perhaps, but lasts longer. I'm not the same as I was 25 years back, we and the world around us continue to change, hopefully in a positive direction.

Do you by any chance still have the 1920s windows?.
Sorry for the late reply, been occupied! We do have many of the original windows. We are likely going to try to give them away or take to the local architectural salvage joint for store credit. If you are interested let me know!

Congratulations and best wishes!

Very nice! We are the Wildflower BnB. We bought it as the Wildflower, but if I were making a new one, I would choose a name that was closer to the beginning of the alphabet.
I stopped by a visitor center during my travels to see where our rack cards were. Everything is in alphabetical order, so our Cottages rack card was visible, but the Wildflower was the last one on the bottom. Blegh.
Small detail, because I love the name Wildwood. Some people get our name mixed up and call us Wildwood.
Congrats on the new venture and best wishes for success. :)

We are also 'alphabetically challenged.' Any directory (remember those) that listed alpha did not get our business. I have not noticed if the tourist info places put them out like that will have to look. We'd always be on the bottom shelf. (Our rack cards are bright yellow because of that, just in case.)

Morticia, I'm an old pack rat and like information on paper, but do you feel folks really look at rack cards much these days? I seem to get very few requests as most folks seem to be looking online with their phone.

I still buy rack cards. I get requests from the Welcome Centers for them so someone must be taking them.

Most people don't take them, they take a pic with their phone so they have the info. I bought about 2000 rack cards maybe 3 years ago. I just opened the second 1000 box. The tourism office takes about 300/year and the museums we support take another 100. Guests will grab one on the way out, or they take a biz card.
The people who take them most are scrapbookers who will put them in an album they will look at once in awhile. ;-)
I have rack cards for places to visit and I will hand those out so the guest remembers what I said. Maps I sell like hotcakes. I pick up 50 or so from the tourism center every few months. These are local maps of different towns. I get them for 3-4 towns nearby. I also have the state map as we're listed in it.
