I know I've posted eye tracking studies before (on the old site) but here is a more recent one specific to Google. There is not a lot of new information here, but if you've never seen the results of the eye-tracking studies before, they can be pretty "eye opening"

It was neat to check out. So what does this mean for you in your practical applications?
 
It generally means there is a huge difference between being number 1 and being number 4 on a google search in terms of the number of people that will click through.

I went right for the photo...went back to 'read' the text after.
But, ouch, on being lower than slot 4 on Google searches...
