Would Trip Insurance help innkeepers?

here on cape cod massachusetts, we have had rain just about every day in june - part of the day - the whole day - or just a grey overcast day.

lots of guests of the little b&b i am working at wanted to cancel or shorten or reschedule their stays because of the weather. and, of course, they did not want to be charged because of the 'rotten weather'.

obviously this is a financial nightmare for the b&b.

so if a guest bought trip insurance - say thru bandb.com - is there a provision for weather? would the b&b still be paid for the room by the guest but the guest would receive compensation? or would this just be too expensive a 'policy' to write?

I do not believe that rainy days are covered by trip insurance.  There was a group just recently that was writing cancel for any reason insurance, but it was really expensive, and as far as I know it no longer exists.  Weather that causes a flight cancellation is another story, or a flood that washes out a bridge could be another one... and that would be covered from what I understand.

If a guest mentions inclement weather to me, I always say "any day you're not working is a good day".  They always laugh and say "that's for sure"!

I do not allow for cancellations due to weather. The exception would be if roads were closed. Life is not perfect. I run a business and will not take a loss because someone doesn't like the weather. Nope!!

We would only accept cancellation if the police said to stay off the roads. But we are lucky in that most of our guests book the wine tours - and like we tell them, "Wine Tasting is an Indoor Sport!".
