My favourite line other than ... just one more question.
This morning, our guests sit at the breakfast table, it is set for 2 (our guests) they ask, "aren't you going to join us?" I replied, we may join you for coffee when we bring the sweet bread out, but someone has to cook your breakfast. They didn't seem offended, but I thought it was funny.
I am sure you have heard many like that before, but it made me laugh this morning.

Yes, we often had people ask us to eat with them. We are far too busy to do that, but they just don't realize it. There are times when we did sit and chat but that was usually with repeat guests that we knew pretty well. We usually chat as we move in and out as we serve courses and then we stand around and chat as we clear the table because they usually have questions about "what to do" and "where to go" etc.
I have stayed at places where the innkeepers did actually sit down and serve breakfast family style and ate breakfast with the guests. I was not comfortable with that. And knew when we opened that we would not do that.
It is just a matter of preference for the innkeepers.

It is a real compliment for you. They enjoy your company.
I appreciate hearing that too and I have some stupid or witty remark about I will be back in as my cheerios are getting soggy. Then they love to talk about "What DO YOU innkeepers eat?" etc
I think about 50% of our guests secretly want to open their own B&B.

Sorry, so sorry, to say it AGAIN about those innkeepers who automatically sat down with us and we shared the lousy breakfast together. It was an all time let down at a B&B. We finally arranged a sitter and to be able to get away from this business for our anniversary. It was awful. I was surprised at the table for four and thought, Oh, someone else must have checked in last night. NOPE. Innkeepers ate with us. It was like going to eat at my parents house.
We had the hostess getting up and down each time clearing plates and bringing out some juice or something which she had forgotten.
I am the same way at someone's house, please have it pretty much ready when we get there - not in the process when WE GET THERE and we sit there watching you jump up and down and make us feel bad. (I feel bad, dh doesn't bat an eye - I feel like I need to always help)

We don't eat with, but stand and chat during while bringing food out. Then toward the end (especially if we have a solitary traveler) I'll grab a chair and sit with a boy on my lap and chat. But if there's a larger group and they're all having a wonderful time talking I usually won't do that.
=)
Kk.

Yeah, I'm not always with the innkeeper closeby. We were at a local bnb and had breakfast at 9AM. At 11:30 the innkeeper was still going a mile a minute and I was walking backwards up the staircase, trying to get away!
I play it by ear. Sometimes if folks seem chatty, I'll pull out a chair and chat a while, but I don't eat. Occasionally have a cup of coffee.

We took out muffins (rasp/wht choc) at the end of breakfast and a cup of coffee to have with them. They are here looking at houses and they love what we did with ours. (5 long months of renos and workers) We love our house as well. Mexican and modern mix.
They have lots of questions. Lots. Oh and then, there is just one more. Nice people though and we are enjoying their company. I guess if we didn't we would hide like we have done before

. They are here for 3 more nights, we will talk to them about anything they want.

We don't sit either. Guests did ask for it, and sometimes dh sits with them. We ahve to be really comfortable to do this. As it was said before, I keep clearing plates and refilling juices..too much getting up. I just rather stand and chat, maybe nibble on a muffin....

There is something else here we have not mentioned. Some poeple are just boring and we have STUFF TO DO. I will admit, I don't mind getting sidelined if it is someone interesting. But there are some roolly roolly boring people in this world.
I remember the couple where she never smiled and he spoke like one word replies. SHEESH!!! GET SOME CONVERSATION SKILLS PEOPLE. The weird thing was they WANTED TO TALK. I couldn't figure it out, it was an enema, oops, typo, anemia, oops typo, enigma.

Shopping. Please don't ask me to talk about shopping.

Oh Oh Oh .. ask me about shopping ... or where to find some sort of craft that I never heard of
confused_smile.gif
or they can't remember exactly what it is they are looking for.
We send everyone to the craft market. No idea if they even remember what they were looking for as when they return with their shopping, they have tons of things, are really happy and nothing looks like what they were trying to describe. lol I love shopping and love seeing what things our guests purchase as reminders of Mexico (grin)

Shopping is the big attraction here. There is only so much I can take in a day...if someone finds a really neat item from a local, then ok. But, please, all the shoes look the same to me.
