I have wondered about such places. Is this only for "comp" travelers or all?
It would be kind of nice to be able to share bad customers with other B&B's.....I mean, only the ype which wrecks your rooms or steals and such...

From the quick look I gave the article (it is rather long), it looks like the type of guest they would want in the db is the guest who deliberately goes out of their way to get things for free, who deliberately destroys things just to complain about them.
Mostly those people who complain to get free stuff.

Yep, those are the people I was talking about. So it might be worth subscribing?
I will have to check it out a little further.
Thanks for sharing :)

I guess it depends on how much it costs and how much revenue you have lost in the past to justify being a subscriber. I haven't had anyone here I'd put in that category. Of course I've had guests I'd just as soon went elsewhere and most do, but I've never HAD to give free rooms to complainers.
I did twice give a refund/partial refund. Once because the room flooded and once because the fire alarm kept going off all night and the guests couldn't sleep. Neither of those things were the guests' fault. (Well, we're still not sure about the flood.)
But for B&B's that are really large or are in the sort of location that attracts 'scammers' I'd say it might be worth the investment. Especially if you've been burned.
There was a couple a few years back who had a scam going where she checked in with a big story about how her boyfriend was coming back from Iraq for a short leave and he'd be meeting her and he would pay. Well, boyfriend came and neither of them ever got around to the paying part. In some cases, they stayed for 1-2 weeks. They did this up and down the mid coast states. Lots of innkeepers got burned on that one and they posted the license number and description of the couple and at one point someone found a photo of them from another place they had scammed. (That was a hot air balloon company that took pix of all their guests and posted them online.)
Not sure how that whole thing ever got resolved, if they were caught or just went underground for awhile.

remember the scam with the ones calling and going in to places, pretending to be innkeepers or something ... having an emergency ... not sure what that was all about.

We ran into that here. Scammer called pretending to be the former owner saying he was mugged in Canada (which might have explained why the PO now had a Canadian accent he hadn't had the year before).

They wanted us to send them money to get home. All their credit cards had been stolen, etc. We went around with them for awhile, me knowing it wasn't the PO, finally telling him I didn't think I could help, maybe he should call their best friends. The guy called back and then pretended to be the dr in the hospital, both PO's now unable to speak to anyone, one unconscious, the other's mouth wired shut. I called the police here in town and they took down the info. I heard they threatened one innkeeper with bodily harm when she told them she knew it was a scam.
Finally, if it was the same scammer, someone agreed to wire the money to them at a grocery store. They wired in $1 and the RCMP were waiting at the store and picked the guy up.
Another one going around now is calling older folks and pretending to be a grandchild in distress at the border. No money to pay the duty with all the purcahses made in Canada, could grandpa wire the money. Apparently it's gotten a few grandpas to wire money to pretend granddaughters.

And the lady with the parrots. I think we all got calls about that one (calls not emails) so it was good we discussed on the other forum.
