I googled our B&B name. We compete with a couple other B&B's with the same name - but we have the top 4 spots. I also found US on Yelp on page 1 - in the 10th spot of the google search.
So don't ignore yelp, add your info (and pics) there.

I personally love Yelp and use it much more often that TA...although I've never written a review there so I don't know how different the process is...maybe it's easier to do one on Yelp? The reviews always seem more candid and balanced, and not like someone has an axe to grind like on TA.

In my thank you email to guests, (and yes, I ask for reviews), I include the link to our reviews on bb.com, TA, Yelp and BnbFinder.com. I think I only have one or two on Yelp. It's another one of those where you have to open an account to review, so sometimes people find it too cumbersome and intrusive.

I have not asked for any reviews for a while and guess what? I am not getting any. DOH! For those who have hundreds and never ask...I don't believe it, not for onc second. Guests leave loving their stay "We'll tell everybody about you!!!!" they promise.
I will never forget being told that asking for reviews is manipulation. WRONG! If you don't ask you most likely will not get any or many...

Yelp is also organized by city and it may take a while for places to get reviewed in towns that are not metro areas. I think it is spreading recently but my reviews are listed under a city in another state about 45 minutes away.

.
I think you are right on this, I've used Yelp mostly for NYC and Boston, I think for smaller towns it is less detailed but as it's user-generated content probably growing.

congratulations. That's a great feeling, isn't it? Enjoy and keep up the good work.

Ask and you shall receive.

You know I always cringe when I do a search on my inn name. Today is no different. Buried back on page 5 or 6 is this line in an ad for a bed: Welcome to the official FaceBook page for (my B&B)...
The link is one of those referral links to a website that sells beds. There is nothing on THAT page with my B&B name in it but the originating page may be something different. If I can find it...

Yeah right. These are the same guests who pull into the parking lot a year later (as walk ins) and say, 'I knew we'd recognize the place once we got here, but for the life of us we couldn't remember the name.'
Or those guests who call and start off with, 'I know this will sound strange, but do I have a reservation there? I can't remember where I booked!'

On the "enter your address in google" thread, I entered my address, and the Inn's Yelp listing was at the bottom of page one...that was a surprise.
