This is a dense cake with a simple, old-fashioned flavour—wonderful for showcasing fresh cherries in season. Try it also with other fruits and berries; peaches and blueberries make a nice combination.
My guests love this cake! It is really an old recipe which I have made for years! It is very easy to make. It is rich, fudgy and moist. This cake freezes very well also. I usually just frost it with a can of "store-bought" chocolate frosting.
