Description

nicnamed the 'funnest dessert' by my kids (years ago) this is a trifle.

you can go natural and healthy with fresh fruit and your own whipped cream, or store bought and sinful with frozen fruit and cool whip .... and of course the variation!

Ingredients

2cstrawberries, hulled, quartered and washed, sugar to taste or frozen
2cblueberries, hulled quartered and washed, sugar to taste or frozen
1 pound cake
2cwhipped cream - your own or cool whip if you must

Instructions

To make this dessert look spectacular, you need a clear serving dish (like a trifle bowl) or you can serve individually.

You can go natural and make your own cake and your own whipped cream, wash and sugar your own berries or drain the sweetened frozen kind.

Break up the pound cake into pieces about 1 to 2 inches in size.

In the serving dish, start with a layer of pound cake, then a layer of fruit, then a layer of whipped cream. Continue layering so that whipped cream is on the top.  Save out a couple nice berries to garnish.

Refrigerate until you serve.

ALTERNATIVE VERSION:  Devils food (chocolate) cake in place of pound cake, chocolate pudding in place of fruit ... and of course, whipped cream or cool whip.  Assemble starting with broken pieces of cake, pudding and whipped cream.  Garnish with some chocolate curls (or chocolate morsels or a couple chocolate kisses)

PREP TIME depends on whether you make your own cake, your own pudding and/or your own whipped cream.  In a pinch, you can find these ingredients in a super market and throw it all together (literally) in under 10 minutes.

Alternate serving method ... you can do layers of the above ingredients in individual drinking glasses (or parfait glasses if you have them) and serve with long spoons.

For a special touch, put a lit sparkling candle standing in the whipped cream in the top of each glass.  WOW!

Have fun!!
