Not sure where this started but my father who was a cook in the USCG furing WWII made this all the time.

Description

For the chocoholic in all of us.

Ingredients

1pkdevils food cake mix
1pkcook n serve chocolate pudding
1pk12 oz pkg reg or milk chocolate chips (use the whole 12 - 16 oz bag for serious chocoholics)
1pkmini chocolate chips (optional for topping, can use regular chocolate chips if you don't have mini on hand)

Instructions

Pre heat oven for 9 x 13 metal or glass pan per cake box directions.

Lightly grease the pan, and dust with flour or a little dry cake mix.

Pour the dry cake mix in a large bowl.

Prepare the pudding according to package directions.  Must use cooked pudding NOT INSTANT.

Mix the warm pudding into the cake mix, and gently stir until combined, add the regular size chocolate chips, again stirring gently.

Spread in the 9 x 13 prepared pan.

Top with more chocolate chips or the mini chocolate chips, bake per package directions, approx 25-35 min. at 350.

 

 

 

Notes

There are tons of variations of this. Andies Mint Chips, Butterscotch, add nuts to the top, use White Chocolate chips on the top.

Best served warm with a scoop of fresh vanilla ice cream, but holds well and is just as great at room temperature with whipped cream or the other non-dairy topping from a tub.
