Just thought I'd pass this on for a bit of fun.

OK - this is a tricky one for me.

We have a ghost.  She is real, she has her opinions and she hasn't been around for a while.  I have chosen NOT to advertise her or talk about her unless I am absolutely sure there is an interest and a lack of fear.  Myrtle and I have our own little pacts and agreements in place.  She definitely hindered us when we first got here but then we had a little talk, now, IF she is around, she helps.

EB, very interesting place in TX - if I ever get out to TX would love to go there to see if I pass the test!  I find the concept of ghosts intriguing!

It's also a great, pre-advertised way to get of guests YOU don't want

We've stayed at a bnb who mentions they have ghosts TWICE. Different innkeepers. (changed ownership) She is a nice ghost, rather playful. Switches lights on and off. She never got my attention.

I've made that same pact myself with ghosts.  Kind of along the lines that hey, I'm here so you may as well get used to it and can't we all just get along.

There are actually lots of guests who are interested in places that have ghosts.  So Mainiac, if I were you, I'd definitely let folks know about Myrtle. You'd be surprised how many guests she'll help you bring in.

Do you say these things out loud or in your head?

I moved into one place that had been known to be haunted for generations.  Had heard all the stories.  Dogs wouldn't sleep in there.  Knocking on the walls at the same time every night.  Stories in the beach community of a ghost seen walking on the beach in a Union soldier's uniform.  He was known (and still is, I hear) as brass buttons because that's what folks would see when he appeared on the beach.

Had friends of mine actually see him in my house.  I never did.  But must admit that, yes, I felt his presence very strongly at times.

But yes, when I moved in I said it right out loud.  Know you're here.  Know you've got some issues but here's the thing.  I'm going to be living here and I hope you'll be okay with that.  Told him it would really freak me out to see him and hoped he'd understand that.   I didn't really care that folks might think it was crazy that I was talking to a ghost because it was widely assumed to be true.  There had been enough regular appearances.

Like I said, he appeared to some of my friends.  But never to me.  He still appeared on the beach to locals but, again, I never saw him.  Heard him a lot at times but I pretty much trusted that we had a truce of sorts.

Moved into an altogether different place years after that and found it was also haunted.  Had not been told before moving in.  Smelled strong perfume at times.  Felt a cold chill move past me at times.  Never had the conversation and never made a pact because it felt like a very angry spirit.  Turns out a woman had committed suicide there, in the very spot where the cold wind would appear.

All very true stories, BTW.

Of course it HAD to be out loud. Just because Myrtle is a ghost does not turn her into a mindreader. I PRAY I never have a minreader near me! Sometimes they would be VERY unhappy to know my thoughts.

The reason I don't tell people is that my Dad knew the story and asked me to tell my wonderful step-mother last time they were here.  She was genuinely scared and started crying when it was time to go to bed.  I felt horrible, horrible. horrible.  Neither Dad nor I had any idea she would react that way.

Does this having anything to do with April 1?  How did you learn 'Myrtle's' name?  Did you name her?  and how does she help?

Myrtle used to own this house and all the others around it.  POs were both senior ex-navy and the absolute antithesis of fanciful.  They turned the house into a B&B while Myrtle (who was very proud of her house) kept a watchful eye.  When one of the POs discussed changing the decor in a bathroom, she had a hairbrush thrown straight at her head.

We were told to watch out for couples drinking together.  Myrtle enjoyed her tipple, but her ex-husband would become abusive when he drank.  She was fine with people having a glass of wine by themselves but not drinking together.  The first few weeks here, we broke a ridiculous number of glasses .... having a G&T on the back porch, glass was in your hand one minute and shattered on the deck the next, but when DH was traveling there were no incidences.

So - yes.  I had an out-loud conversation with Myrtle.  Give DH and me a chance, you'll see that we get lovey dovey not angry.  I also told her I would do my best to keep her house beautiful if she would watch my back.  No more broken glasses,

Myrtle also owned a GORGEOUS building down the hill and used it as her antique shop.  A couple of years ago it was turned into a successful restaurant.  I later found out that the chef (who knew nothing about Myrtle) refused point blank to go down to the basement where they housed their liquor.  I am assuming she decided her house was being looked after and shifted her attention to the newer venture.

I have some 'live ins' too. I wish they would help out....lazy buggers.

Pick up a dust rag once in a while, unless you are too busy being dead eh?

Good Point!  If they can slam doors, smash glasses & throw hairbrushes, surely they could push a dust rag!!
