Deneen Pottery (aka Cloth & Clay)

Visit the website>>> Deneen Pottery

Makers of the Cloth & Clay mugs with the look of hand-thrown pottery, Deneen is still family-owned and you're likely to meet Peter or Niles Deneen at a trade show.  In addition to mugs they make ornaments, coasters, key fobs, and pitchers.  They also will design a logo for use on the pottery and sell you the artwork for other uses.

Do any of you use these mugs in your Inn?  We had an Inn in Camden and 1 in Kennebunkport use them for their coffee/tea service.  I loved these!!

Which inn did you have in Camden? We stayed there several times.

I would love to know about these mugs. How many do you have to buy at a time?

Sandynn, unfortunately we didn't have an Inn....     We had a few of the Inns we stayed at use them.  If you click on the link it should take you to where you can order them.  I think they're pretty pricey upfront, but they are really neat.

I had mugs made by a WV potter. I bought 6 to use in the B & B and 6 to see if they would sell. I ordered a dozen more. They sold so fast! I think it was because they were by an in-State potter.

Daneen mugs are also done by potters (as opposed to prodution-line mugs from China that have your logo slapped on them).

I also like the fact that they are made in the USA and NOT China.  I am trying to buy as much as I can that's USA made, which is really hard to do sometimes!

Did your mugs for have your logo on them too?  You should post a picture, it would be neat to see everyone's mug designs!

I asked Larry Riffle to make some mugs for me. Told him I wanted a handle a man could get his hands around comfortably and said I wande them to be burgundy to pink in color. I also wanted Gillum House on them. I left the rest of it up to him - he is the artiste! He made a medalion and had the year in the center - but he had the wrong year so we just scraped that away. I did not use the logo on this because I was keeping costs down. This is what he did for me. I could have sold 20 of them since January if I had had them!

He has a pretty neat website.  That's cool that a local potter made/makes your mugs, looks like he's won some awards!

He is also making me some face mugs to see how they will sell. They will have a "face" on one side and my medallion on the other. I hope he gets them made before 2009. He had pneumonia and is way behind on his orders.

I am also having him make a set of dishes for me - but I have to have them made 2 places at a time - custom is no cheap. I ordered 2 dinner plates, 2 salad plates, 2 saucers, and I think 2 salad bowls also. They are to be a silver gray in the plate part (to show off the food) and burgundy rim.

Caril you can add your link and information as a resource on this forum, like the Deneen Pottery, please post it up front and open if you want members to view your link, vs putting it under Deneen thread.  Please read the forum FAQS.

We here are all very familiar with this company. We have discussed them here frequently. But your link does not go to them..it must be going to YOUR company! Not a good way to intro yourself here.

At least the link is actually to a pottery company.  There are links to other pottery companies besides Deneen already posted in this thread.  They should probably all be listed in the resources section.

You are sooooo on my list.

I have before me a cup from another innmate that I love and enjoy and think of the innmate every time I use it.  I am so serious, I am going to get in my go-go-mobile and head to the land of corn!

The rule for these cups is you need to visit the inn, to start the collection!

Definately would recommend them.

Also very nice folks to deal with.

We use these where I work. They are great sellers. One thing I would recommend is actually using them for breakfast and putting them in the gift shop to sell as well. Once people USE them, they are more apt to BUY them.

There have been some people who get up from the breakfast table and walk up to the front desk and ask if they can buy the one they used for breakfast! I always ask them if they want it washed first! Smiling
