Mobile Web Sites

Our web developer (Wowi Zowi) is offering a service to create a Mobile version of your website that is easily readable and bookable from any smart phone.  I personally would give Roby and Carolyn at Wowi Zowi the highest recommendation possible, they are simply awesome professionals who are very good at what they do.  I received this email from them and wanted to share.  They do not have to have designed or maintained your site to create the mobile version.

Here is the info:

Our research shows that around 10% of your visitors are coming in from handset devices such as the IPhone, IPad, Droid, Blackberry, or any smart phone. We’ve built mobile sites for many of our clients now and it’s paid off for them big time as they are getting quite a few bookings from people who are driving around looking for a place to stay.

Most importantly, we have in place ‘handset detection software’ that sees if the visitor is on a handset and redirects accordingly… to your regular site if on a computer or to the mobile site if it is a mobile devise. This will take mobile visitors directly to the mobile site first, where we have a fast loading, small image that matches your regular site with simple navigation; linking to your one-click phone number, booking engine, directions, email and a link to your regular site.

Here are some samples of a few mobile sites we’ve created for our clients. If you have a smart phone, go to

Why? Don't most phones pick up websites without doing anything special now. Isn't that correct? I was looking at phones the other day and tried a few web sites on them and they all came up basically ok.

I just got the Droid and my site shows up flash and all. I was told the flash would not show and it does so I would not bother. I did learn in PAII that you should design your website starting from the top left out as that's where the phones pull from.

Flash doesn't show on Iphone. The only one I see a link for the mobile phone is on the first one????? Where is it hiding on the others or am I blind today?

It's not a link, just enter the URL on your smart phone's browser and it will automatically take you to the mobile site.

I dont' have a smart phone Smiling  The one site has a link at the top of the home page. The others do not. That is why I was confused. And didn't a c or n say to put the link in the upper left hand of the home page?  Don't know if that is mandatory or not.

Well I may be wrong, but is it not flash that makes the photos change? I did that software on my home page www.arcadyvineyard.com and I thought it was flash that makes my photos change. If it is, then yes, flash works on the Droid. If it is not flash, then I'm wrong.

The pictures on your main page are flash. Most Android phones 2.2 or higher support flash. I believe the new windows phones support flash or will shortly. Analysts are predicting that eventually Android and Windows phones will make up a majority of the Smartphone market.

Both Android and Windows phone support Flash in the browsers, and have for over a year.

My Blackberry does not, it shows the regular site and it is a PAIN, on my own site I wouldnt' be able to do anything.

If you have a smart phone try entering the example sites above and you will see how clean it is, one touch shopping basically.  For a one time fee of $200 it was worth it for us.  We really love the smart phone booking crowd, they are our target demo.

A class I recently took mentioned Blackberry users and what NOT to send to them because of what they cannot view. They encouraged the use of multiple formats for the same info because not everyone's 'system' can handle everything correctly.

I think this was a bigger deal when people were using the old blackberry's. The screen and interface was horrible. As a long time iphone user I cannot stand made for phone websites. Drives me nuts as i wonder what I am missing. just my 2 cents.

Actually the older Blackberry I had was much better than this new one, the web browsing stinks.

In our experience people looking to book on the spot aren't worried about what they might be missing on the site, they just want the availability link and I like how this portrays that.
