looking for your thoughts on bedandbreakfast.com

I have used this website for three months, but only to advertise my B&B and my website, I don't use their online booking system so can't comment on that. So far I've had nobody phone or email asking for room info or bookings from it. I paid a yearly fee of about $130 but probably won't bother...

How long does it last? I want to get away from the freezing weather and snow to sunshine and forest fires, all expenses paid by the business.

Ah I see, who's swirt? Anyway thanks for the info :) always like learning, especially about running a B&B. Yes Duff, this is home, home is where you lay your head, home is like a lost pussy cat, found in the nestles of of the basement under some old chair grandma used to sit in, home is where...

Hey Beachhouse, I can edit some of my own posts, but not others. Doesn't seem to be a logic running through this but I'm sure there is one.

Thanks Beachhouse, i wasn't being rude :) I thought that maybe it was a forum rule not to name your b&b. Got it now.

And it's called 'the beach house'? Are you not allowed to say where your B&B is on here then? Except vaguely, like the state or province or town?

Been to Worcester and Springfield on the way to Boston a couple of years ago. Lovely countryside. I always seem to think of the Bee Gees when anyone mentions Massachusetts.

Where are you Beachhouse? Our restriction is on number of guests, 16 I believe. Also not permitted to serve food to non-guests. Maybe non guests are more susceptible to food poisoning? Or there's a positive aura of bacterial cleanliness within B&B's in Ottawa, but only for people who have used...

    Lights?

We have just opened and have no lights outside at all. So I've put up a metal stand with 2 medium sized flashlights attached for guests to use. Thing is I forgot to put batteries in them. It was funny the next morning at breakfast when people complained of falling over and hitting into things on...

Ah Harrogate, I lived in Hackney some years ago, no B&B's in Hackney, well there weren't any while I was there, the Cray twins were though, they had a few pubs, may have even had 'guests'. Hadn't though of that. Yes the food rules are very strange, everywhere it seems.

I know 2cat, odd to say the least. But I have really tried to be 'permitted' (not the right word me thinks) and the lady at the Public Health Ottawa government place was adament it was the case, I even argued with her! So I trook her name just in case.

Aaah, UK B&B's. What council do you come under Jcam? Is it a London one?

    Food preparation regulations Ontario Canada

Isn't it weird that food is food and people is people, yet the rules for when, how, and where food should be consumed is down more to opinion and the latest trends in the places you reside than human common sense and prudency.

It's ok J:) Yes we've done all the necessary stuff for permits but I wasn't sure that I got it right with the food part... even though all the information I had we need no permits at all. I just didn't believe it. Nothing is THAT easy surely. But it's true, no permits needed.

OK I phoned the same Ottawa number I was waiting on, and got an answer straight away! Apparently "For guest house/bed & breakfast operations in Ontario, preparation and serving of food does NOT need any type of license or permits, provided the food or drink (non alcoholic) is NOT given or sold...
