To ID or NOT to ID? That is the question...

I've been doing this for 16 years and we don't ask for ID and we have not had a problem other than the one guest that paid cash and smoked pot in the room. No property damage other than cleaning and airing out the room. I recommend getting a card on file for all reservations and an ID for cash...

    10 Year Anniversary

We took over the business on April 1st, 2013 and closed on the purchase on Halloween Day of 2013. The Scary Joke is on us!

    Additional Guest Fee

We have only used it once and that was with my grandkids. We got the queen bed with cabinet and the sofa. I don't recommend the sofa. It is designed to keep the frame of the sofa in place and remove the cushions to put the bed down right over the sofa. However, the cushions are large and...

    10 Year Anniversary

Happy Anniversary Arks! We, too, are approaching our 10th Anniversary of ownership (I've been at it for 15 years total). This is not a job, it is a lifestyle!

    Additional Guest Fee

Our sofa sleepers have seen better days as well. We have just put in our first Murphy bed. We'll see how that goes and phase out the sleepers if guests can handle pulling the bed down. :)

    Hot? It is not!

Sounds like a normal stressed filled day in this idyllic business we are all in! Remind me again, why do we do this? May you get your furnace fixed and carry on in heated bliss!

Today’s story (subtitled, I guess I’ve given my last #*@#)

Agreed but at least duct tape can muffle the sounds of stupid! ;)

Transition Phase - Who gets paid?

Deposits are payments made towards a future purchase. So whoever is in possession at the time of the sale (guest stay) should get the deposit. I say should because it doesn't always work that way unless you have that in writing before the sale (property purchase) goes through. Another bugger...

    It's the little things...

Unannounced early arrivals, those are my favorite - not! I really have to hold my tongue. I have had many, many conversations with early arrivals who obviously just don't get how this works. Current guests have until 11 to check out and then we have 4 hours to clean 15 rooms. Sure you can...

    What’s wrong with this picture?

I tend to shy away from anything that specifically lists B&B as what it is all about. Expectations. I will look into it though, after all I am a military brat! Unless, of course, Vets are veterinarians? :)

    That’s not a diet requirement

What you do for your guests is truly remarkable! I admire all of you and really respect you for your commitment to your businesses! I agree that any establishment that calls itself a B&B is totally expected to provide a better breakfast. 14 years ago when I started working here the management...
