    It's the little things...

…all this after offering an early check-in. No good deed goes unpunished…

    It's the little things...

I always make it seem as though I’m doing them a favor ‘ I’ll start cleaning that room first so it should be ready by x pm so you’re able to check in earlier - would that be ok?’ It seems to work but honestly, I’d prefer a normal check in time

    Credit Card Processing?

Stripe was easy and seamless, which I use with Thinkr. Other cc vendors overly complicated things with lengthy contracts and many ‘if then’ contract gotchas to a very frustrating point and with Stripe it was simply 2.9 plus .30 per transaction been happy ever since.

    What is wrong with people

I would have wanted them to pack-n-go also but if he was drunk- that complicates things.. never had that kind of drama unfold at least as loudly as you had it unfold (thank God) hope you didn’t put the curse on us all!

I Want to Cancel My Non-Refundable Reservation...

These are all great responses from innkeepers who know a few things because they’ve seen a few things over the years! I always tell people that my policy-like those above- is strict because if one room cancels, it’s 25% of my business. That would be like someone booking 25 rooms at a 100 room...

    Unhappy Guests Want Discount

I fought one on Exped* and won, claiming that they can’t review a stay that never happened but I suppose it depends on the circumstances.. I can be a little tenacious at times!

    Unhappy Guests Want Discount

I think the timing of their request for a rebate is important, if they complained after the fact then I was denied a chance to remedy the ‘problem’ and if they complained to me at 6, I would have told them to pack up and go with a full refund because they can’t leave a bad review if they haven’t...

I said it before I could think.

I enjoy having guests (most of them) but honestly I’d rather not slow down their departure one minute by letting them strip the bed down so I say the same when they ask!

    Bed and Breakfast Insurance

Thanks for the tip, finding an insurer that covers B&B’s isn’t easy! I spent hours looking and ended up with Allen Financial Grp/Scottsdale AZ and they used Tokyo Marine Group/Philadelphia Insurance Co. and I saved a grand by leaving Tricor. With insurers it seems the longer you stay the more...

    People (rolling eyes) 🙄

In many ways, running a B&B is like being in charge of adult day care. Coffee makers of all kinds are always problematic for guests from spills to simply putting a pod in a Keurig.. I have Hamilton Beach coffee maker that requires one to push the cup up in the front to dispense like a water...

    Dealing with Fraudulent Bookings

Rather than being so prompt with the refunds when they cancel, it may be appropriate to add a month delay in policies to refund any charges over $500. You’ve certainly got a good reason for the policy.

    When Is Bedtime?

You could’ve had some fun and gone outside the door and screamed ‘shut the hell up’ and left. It would have quieted them down and satisfied the other guests.. and in the morning just pretend nothing happened with free smiles all around and they’ll never really know if it was you. No, thankfully...

    What would you have done?

One time I made French toast, someone asked for an egg fried and when I turned around to hand off the egg around there were about 5 people standing behind me with plates in hand for their eggs. Ever since I now do scrambled eggs with French toast.. makes for a busy breakfast for an old innkeeper

    Looking for some help

All the above and that people enjoy spending time experiencing an area vs making time going through an area. If you want a quick overnight and want to travel thru an area then maybe a big box hotel is for you. If you are more leisurely and enjoy the ride vs. a quick overnight and go then a B&B...
