Thanks to those new encrypted emails, supposedly for security purposes, Booking have granted themselves the right to eavesdrop on our conversations with our customers. And I confirm they make use of this. They never informed us of this. Unacceptable!
I am not so sure about what is said.
Booking's terms & conditions (for visitors) mention:
"From the point at which you make your reservation, we act solely as an intermediary between you and the accommodation, transmitting the details of your reservation to the relevant accommodation provider...
All those who received that email should fight against it. This is crazy. It is one more step in trying to rip you off your business. If you follow, all conversations will be owned by Booking, lost when you close the contract and, at least in France, it is totally against their own contract...
This is all correct. Booking is using ALL legal tools at their disposal to take over your business. You are free to do the same... or not.
Being afraid do not remove the danger.
With Buuteeq (now called "http://suite.booking.com/"), they are proposing a full marketing service. Join, pay...
They booked through a middleman, so they should cancel the same way. If they do not want, up to them. If they do not come, you charge with credit card, earn money and happy the next day because one room less to clean. I love cancellations.
If they do not do their job properly, there is no reason to pay the commission. Do not feel bad for going direct in these cases.
Otherwise, play by the rules.
No problems with Booking.com. Excellent service to both customer and owner.

Many small property owners are lost with e-marketing (and even computers) and cannot hire someone to handle it. On the other side, Booking sales staff are very aware of the situation and extremely efficient, just like their company.

In France, after pressure from different parties, management responses have been in A/B testing format for a few months, then definitively approved a few weeks ago. I have not heard of the right of the guest to stop the management response. Seems not applied over here.
