I am sooo thankful that my occupancy is staying high, however with increased costs I am stil struggling to make ends meet.
For those of you that have some extra (like 15... haha) hours in a week, I do customer service from home. The nice thing about this particular company is that you can work your 15 hours in 30 min blocks across 7 days, so easy (another haha) to fit in between cooking, cleaning and everything else!
It's a unique company - you need to be incorporated since we handle customer credit cards and personal info, you need to go through a background check and you pay for your initial and client training but it is NOT a multi level marketing scheme and it's all inbound (not cold) calling. We handle clients like Disney dining (that is my current client), Barnes & Noble, Home Depot (my former clients) and others such as Time Magazine, AAA, Circuit city< interval International, Staples, Toys R Us etc.
All the info is on the website, the application process takes a while, and you can use my agent ID for ref which tens to push you through the application process a little quicker - My agent ID is 112627 at www.arise.com. (They are currently hiring for the Xmas rush) and also now hiring in the UK.

I sell books online in the slower season. It's about time to start relisting to get the Christmas sales.

I did Kelly Temp for years. Still do once in a while if she is between a rock and a hard place. Mostly will do it in winter. It works nicely because if I am busy with B & B or with my volunteer stuff I can just say no and it is not a problem. This year I only said yes when she hit that rock. But she will call me when she has something that either pays REAL nice or she needs a professional person.

If I had 15 extra hours a week I would:
- clean out our personal areas
- homeschool our kids
- catch up on 20 years of photos that need organized
- balance my checkbook
- file three cardboard boxes of bills and bank statements
- fill out the directory listing I signed up for last week and still haven't looked at
- write a cookbook to sell
- fix the innumerable broken things
- unpack my mom's stuff from when she died 3 years ago
- test out my two whirlpool tubs that I've never tried
- get some exercise
- visit my elderly aunt
- sleep
i.e., all the stuff I've put off for far too long.
Do you really have an inn or are you just trying to drum up interest in your work-from-home scheme?
=/
Kk.

Yes, I really have an Inn, as you can see from the signature at the bottom of my email - why do people always have to think that someone is trying to take advantage of them?
Arise is NOT my company, it is NOT a multi level marketing scheme (heck I would love to own Disney or B&N .... so it's not my "scheme" as you suggest...) but I have to have some "regular" income, and knowing we cannot "leave the house" and have a full time job, I just thought I would share (!!!) what I do. There are so many scams for work at home companies and this just happens to be "real" and I THOUGHT may be of interest to some people.
No, I do not have an extra 15 hours per week and there are 300 other things I would like to do around the house (as well as sleep) but they don't pay the bills.
You obviously are very lucky that you are able to cover your bills with your Inn ... mine is still getting there.
(and if you still don't believe I have an Inn, feel free to call me!)
:)

What is the customer service that you do? What kinds of questions are people asking or needing help with? Sounds like it would be really nice as an extra source of income.

You know when you call those 800 numbers to get help with orders? Return an order? Make a dining reservation at Disney? Call for roadside assistance? Have a question about your magazine subscription?
Arise contracts with lots of big companies and has work-at-home agents .... so next time you are talking with a customer service rep .... they may be in some small town like mine, as opposed to some big call center.
You get to choose your client after your basic training (which you pay for) and so you are working a corporate call center without the office gossip!
Since all your costs are tax deductible, and we work out of our homes anyway, it also helps in that way.
Nothing you'll get rich at but it pays more than McD and you don't have to drive to work or wear a funny uniform. Heck, work in your bunny slippers! (wish I could do that when I was checking in my guests!!)

Well, as you say, there are so many scams... we've had people come on here before who are only here to sell their website or scheme or ebook. We are interested in hearing about useful things, so "selling" is not outlawed, nor is referring a company as you are doing. But after some of the bozos we've had in the past, you can understand why we're dubious of new folk. No harm intended.

Nope, they sure don't, which is why I'm so far behind on my stuff, too.
My inn does not pay our bills... we're new, only open four months with all rooms, and just over a year from our first room. Dh works in the salt mines (a factory job) to provide steady income and health insurance. Our long term plan is for him to be full-time in the B&B, but it will be an iffy thing with only four rooms. At this point 100% of my B&B's income goes to pay off renovations and start up costs, as well as pay ongoing marketing and operating expenses.

3rd job is another customer service job which I started a month ago, we call docs office's to req medical records for anyone applying for life/disability insurance etc (yes it's all HIPAA compliant Blah blah) but it's much less than I am earning with Arise so I did not pass that one on .... of course there was the 4th job ,my 5 hours a week at the law office down the road but they are cutting back on expenses and that of course was the best paying one)
When I worked corp I never understood how anyone could work 2 full time jobs .. now I know, but I would not give it up and go back to the rat race!!

i went through the whole application process last year for a similar company ... not sure if it was arise. the company does customer service for other companies and after the whole process i was told i was not needed ... wrong geographical area. what a disappointment. like 1800flowers - no need in new england.
are there training costs with arise?
will you earn a commission if someone applies and is hired using your agent number?

There is a pretty lengthy application process because they have to screen (background check) and for Home Depot I had to do a drug check. However I have never heard of Arise saying "you are not needed" at the end of the application, you may have to wait some weeks for available opportunities but right now they are hiring. Yes there is a basic training cost (around $100) which they sometimes waive if they need a lot of people, and then depending on which client you choose and the length of the class, the costs are $100-$200. At first I said HUH? but then you realize that this is company smart - when people pay for their training they are not so quick to jump around. I have been with them now for 2 years.
Sometimes they pay a referral fee and sometimes they don't. In my 2 years I think I have received $50 so I am not passing on this info to get rich on!!
Trust me, this is truly not a multi-level thing. If anyone starts, I don't get paid any kind of ongoing "commission" nor do I make any more on an application than someone who has just started. Contracts are renewed (unless you really screw up) every 3-6 mos depending on the client, and everyone, regardless of "longevity" earns the same amount.
What I like about Arise (used to be called Willow) is that I can choose my hours, schedules are posted 2-3 weeks out and you grab your hours at posting time.

You occupancy is so high because your rates are too low:-( That is a sure sign. You need to up those rates and work less.

I agree, your rates are way too low, with your award references and the amenities you offer, I would expect to pay double the rate you have listed, you have all rooms with private baths, a huge plus!! Raise those rates baby!

I have increased my rates 3 times since I took over this Inn, remember I am in a small town and need to keep in line with what else is available. I had my town force an additional 5% Hotel tax which although does not come into my pocket, kinda limits adding another increase.
I see Inns with much higher rates within a 30 miles radius that are running 20% occupancy (just take a look at their availability charts). I have been running 50-60% (ok I want more but that's a huge increase to the 12% of the former owners...) and that is buiding my business for repeats and referrals.
I do what I need to do and it's a choice I make (with ref to the 3 job comment) to pay my bills, stay out of foreclosure and off welfare etc.
I don;t think that it's any more work than a mom with a job, a household and kids (or a dad ....). I don't have a hubby to bring home a check or do half the work, NO I am NOT asking for sympathy - again, I do what I NEED to do to stay away from going back to corporate.
I was a central res manager for 3 years for a group of hotels, and it would be LOVELY just to say ok now my rates are $150 but it does not happen like that. I yield, I watch the market, I would rather discount a room than have it sit empty (it's not like a T-shirt that you can put out for sale the next day) and I have to keep my heat/air running anyway. I am one of the few B&B that are on GDS (Amadeus, Galileo) because it's the way that many corp travel offices have to book. (not talking Expedia, Hotels.com here ..)
Gee I thought this would have been a place to get a little break ......
