Hello! Who wants to open up a Bed & Breakfast with me?

im in one of the cannabis-friendly states. There are a couple of shops fairly near-by. Those who choose to enjoy do so on one of the outside porches, as there is no smoking (or vaping) inside. I don’t know of any local inns that feature this, it’s just been absorbed into standard operations.

Halloween menu - what are your favorites?

I’ve never done anything special for Halloween. Guests sometimes phone to ask if I decorate for Christmas. General question: How popular are chocolate chips in breakfast foods with guests? I’ve never even thought of doing that.

One Never Knows What a Reply Will Bring...

Good news on the roasters. I was talking about your custom coffee roasts to a set of guests here a week or so ago. They loved that idea.

Timing is everything! And this time, it was good tim8ng!

I just escaped the west coast wallup. Like you, I had previously blocked off indoor guests, although one of the stand-alones was booked. I let them know the forecast and advised bringing flashlights in case of an outage. They decided to come. If they did experience an outage, they didn’t...

What’s your idea of a great vacation?

LOL, any vacation where someone else changes the sheets and cooks. :)

Took me long enough to figure this one out

Yep. That was the prime motivator here too. I did go back to work part time after Covid struck. Our local station manager altered operations so that a couple of us (older age group) could work completely remotely. I blocked two days per week off from B&B. So still working daily in the busy...

Took me long enough to figure this one out

Chuckle. 'The Vision thing" The corporate job ditched the defined benefit plan a little over 20 years ago. We had envisioned my pension would be one leg of a three leg retirement plan: pension/social security, our long term rentals, and the B&B. All of a sudden the B&B portion became a lot...

    Free rooms - discuss.

Due to this forum and other innkeeper advice before we opened, (about just such 'taking advantage') we have only donated a room once. I do home baked goodies and local products gift baskets (with inn brochures and cards) for local organization fundraisers. My better half was a Vietnam vet. We...

Took me long enough to figure this one out

I hear you. This too, is an in-between place for many and the chief reason I still take one nighters in most units. About half my biz. As I wind down in a few years I'll probably stop taking them. Oddly Covid resulted in many more 2-3 nighters. I guess I'll take the upsides where they come. :)

    Thank you! These look perfect!

This year's guests have left more tips than ever.

Two sets of guests this year did. They preferred for me not to enter. I also think they were trying to be helpful. They were.

    Next year!

sympathy chuckle. When we started, I considered a menu guests could choose from the night before. Didn't do it. They all get the same unless they've let me know about a food allergy, restriction or preference. Then an alteration is made. I don't actually cook the mains until they've been...

This year's guests have left more tips than ever.

No duvet covers in summer. Just cotton waffle weave blankets. Easy wash. Fast dry. Haven't had winter multi-day stays that would require blanket changes yet. Very quiet here in the winter months.

    Survived our first busy season!

Congratulations on a successful first season! You've laid the groundwork for many happy returning guests. <3

This year's guests have left more tips than ever.

I’ve stopped even asking if they want room refreshes - nobody said yes last year. I leave extra towels now and more amenities for multi day stays. Deliver sheets in a laundry basket for over three day stays. They can just put the dirty sheets back in the basket outside. prior to Covid I...

This year's guests have left more tips than ever.

Yes, cleaning has always been number one. Previously taken for granted, but now more appreciated. I leave extra Clorox apray and paper towels in the stand alone units for guest use. I also now wrap the TV remotes in sandwich bags after sanitizing (I dont know why I didn't think of that...

This year's guests have left more tips than ever.

Generally it seems B&B guests don't tip if there are not hired housekeepers. Some would not tip to owners as they are not 'the help'. This year has been very different. More tips than probably all prior years combined. It might be my now very gray hair! More likely just guests happy that a...
