    New TripAdvisor policies?

If you want to cancel trip connect, go in and set the date you want your prices to show to tomorrow. Your pricing will stop showing, and you’ll stop being charged within two weeks. Or so they say. I don’t think you can remove your credit card info, I don’t think it will save that change. I think...

    New TripAdvisor policies?

I changed the date for when to show the pricing.

    Two In A Room

No, it’s not just us who are confrontational. But, what we see (hear) more of here are foreign guests pretending they don’t understand the language and hoping we’ll take pity. A certain group of people (multiple ethnicities) don’t believe children count so they won’t tell you there are two...

    New TripAdvisor policies?

That’s only good in the European Union. In the US you don’t have the right to be forgotten by the internet. So, they cannot use these T&C’s there, but they can use them here. The way they’ll do it is by not allowing you access to your account until you agree. Which is why I tested being able to...

    New TripAdvisor policies?

I checked to see if my rates still show. They do, but I also didn’t get a pop up with the new terms. Hmmm.

    New TripAdvisor policies?

Ah, I didn’t use the link. Maybe that’s how I got around it.

    Two In A Room

I know I'm getting old because my first thought is to respond 'which one of you are you willing to leave in the burning building when I tell the fire marshal there are only four in your room?'

    New TripAdvisor policies?

I logged into TripConnect and did not get any messages saying I had to agree to anything. Possibly when you go on to reply to reviews is when they hit you with the new T&C's.

    New TripAdvisor policies?

Keep in mind you can't 'drop them.' Even if you no longer pay them, your listing is still out there. (I'm only pointing this out for newbies who think you can 'opt out' of having your property show up on TA.)

    Two In A Room

Here as well, and not only the air crowd. We get it a lot with families. Parents don’t want to pay for beds for their children. They insist they’ll bring inflatables for the kids. Our rooms are small! An inflatable would mean no one could move without stepping on someone. The fire marshal comes...

    New TripAdvisor policies?

Hmmm. I wonder if you have to agree to the new policy before you can get into your account. I’ll have to check on that tomorrow.

    New TripAdvisor policies?

Anyone else get informed the T&C on TripAdvisor are changing? I haven’t had a chance to log on and read them but the email stated they need to access our websites and apps to insure guests are getting valid information. I don’t get this. They don’t need my permission to look at my website, so...

    Two In A Room

We also closed that room last year and used it for storage! It was nice not to worry someone didn’t read anything but the price.

    Two In A Room

I’ve had a few incidents where guests have looked at the photos and made assumptions about the room layout. The description states there are two beds but they assume the beds are in different rooms even tho the words say otherwise. To assume any room has two KING beds is a bit of a stretch...

How do you respond to hagglers?

We’ve had air guests tell us they don’t pay a commission so it’s the same price no matter how they book. (Not true because they are paying my piece of the commission, but they don’t realize that.) Others have said they don’t trust air hosts so they want the 500 lb gorilla backing them up...

    Whip it, whip it good

A long time ago this forum had a PITA award. My guests got it all the time. Some innkeepers on here said they would have shut down if they had my guests. Then the Hilton opened up and all those guests disappeared. I guess I know where they went. 😉

    Oatmeal question.

Plain with fixings. We generally have oatmeal packs lying around but I never take the flavored ones, I like making my own mixture.

    Whip it, whip it good

I’m not being a wet blanket here. Honestly. You can ask ten different times in six different ways about dietary restrictions and guests will still say, ‘oh, I can’t eat that,’ as you place the plate in front of them of the item you just lovingly described ten minutes ago. (worst one here was a...

    Whip it, whip it good

We did tell them what was in the eggs before cooking them. That’s why the cook walked off the job. Fed up, so to speak.

Something else about your favorite recipes: be sure to give your guests an idea on your website of what you serve. That will help them self-select whether this is the right place for them or not (if they care to check). Given our photos and recipes that we showcase on our website and blog and...
