Annoying stuff from our first week open after winter vacation

Jim, your attitude is great. I have to agree that I enjoy promoting the area. And I do promote other inns as a member of our association. I will try to remember how short life is and how awesome our area is to share.

Can I Have A Promo Code?

I don’t get the government rate. If you have a per diem, either stick to it, or pay the difference. My rooms are priced well. It is none of my business how you manage your travel expenses.

Annoying stuff from our first week open after winter vacation

We are back in business after six months off, time to vent the annoyances. 🤣 got a call asking for early check in. Not an issue as there was no one in that room last night, so sure. Well, it is g o Rey shopping day and we want to get going. He’s not here…..still not here….. In days...

Can I Have A Promo Code?

When asked for AAA or AARP or military discounts, I say, “Our rooms are well priced.” I shouldn’t be annoyed, but I am. There is a place down the street, no ocean view, no porch or outside lounge area, no hot breakfast - charging high $300’s. Higher than us and frankly, higher than I...

Early Bird Grab and Go breakfast ideas

Thank you! Maybe not for everyone, but for us, the website is a chore. So, once it is done, that’s one thing off the list, so, we don’t revisit or revise. Your note is valuable. I will bring it up with Mr. Beach. On a related subject, we are now the only inn in our membership...

Early Bird Grab and Go breakfast ideas

I have said it before and I will say it again, your dedication to your guests and hospitality as a career and an art are the very best! Your ideas are great, that is, if I were getting up early to cook. We are winding down now. my offer of an early bird breakfast is a bag of goodies on...

Early Bird Grab and Go breakfast ideas

Got any great ideas for an early bird bagged breakfast? We offer a grab and go breakfast for our guests who are on the road before we serve. In the past, I have included a yogurt cup, bagged granola, individually wrapped fig Newton bars, muffins, small bottle of juice, banana or apple. I...

    10 Year Anniversary

Yes! Long term plan is to go down to two rooms, accessible from outside, no breakfast, weekly only. Almost no hosting required but we can still collect a few bucks. We will only take regulars, so no explaining restaurants or things to do on a rainy day.

    10 Year Anniversary

Yes to Gillum’s ideas. In our town the chamber loves these milestones and will do an anniversary ribbon cutting for you with press coverage. Open house is a great idea. Good to have at least one room available for the open house. Maybe a raffle for a discount coupon or t shirt or...

I’ll see your headlamp and raise you. We now have a generator for such emergencies.

    New Innkeepers in New England

We once had a power outage at 7:30 am! I ran to Duncan donuts for a couple chugs of coffee and he set out the muffins, fruit and yogurt.

Cancellation (and asking for future credit)

We are case by case. If you have a full house and can’t rent the empty room in time, you should keep the money. Sometimes, we are turning people away before a cancellation. Now we have an empty room! Why should that be our problem? if the house isn’t full, and the change they want is...

    Giving OTAs the Boot

When we started, we were 75% ota bookings. We are now, 75% direct (10 year). We got the place from a woman who did most of her business from overflow from other inns. We upgraded and raised prices so we lost what regulars she did have, so we build from nearly nothing. The otas filled...

    New Innkeepers in New England

Congratulations and best wishes! Welcome. I have a five bedroom b&b on the coast in Massachusetts. Started open year round, but are currently May to October. We found that the stress of icy stairs and driveways and the expense of heating a big, antique house were not worth staying...
