hmmmm..... Do I want to become a B&B owner?

Doing innkeeping went on my possibilities list soon after I started staying in them, in early 1980's Britain. The home based aspect of the business appealed. And as a tourist, what a great way to get a local person's viewpoint on actually living in the area that a visitor will only...

    Stop helping me.

Finally this year there is a lockable door to the kitchen. There is a small look out window at my eye height so I can see how the meals are progressing. The door is kept closed at all times when guests are in the house. Keeps the kitchen odors from wafting through. Keeps the sink clatter and...

    The Seven Year Report

This may be the best overall post I've yet read on this forum. We often do the two column, pluses and minuses, when looking at making additions or changes, but have never been so deliberate in the planning process. Thanks for the structured 'advice'.

Things you have made on Vistaprint lately?

The vacation rental postcard to mail to previous guests, an announcement of a new service. The breakfast postcards to put in the rooms of a nearby place that doesn't have a kitchen to do meals.

Things you have made on Vistaprint lately?

Just made large postcards for our vacation rental, and smaller ones for our starting soon weekend by-reservation-only breakfasts. I always use them for business cards and brochures. I like the freedom of design possibilites. And right now, free photo uploads. (till the 15th I think)

    Garbage Disposal

Since we are on a septic system here, we did not put a disposal in the unit, but even in a nearby city where we have an apartment building, we are slowly taking the disposals out. People put the darndest things down them (or try to)

    Furniture

We furnished from a variety of sources: Unfinished furniture shop for a solid pine four-poster, about US250 as I recall. Two heavy coats of dark Minwax stain and a polyurethane finish and, really, most think its an antique. We buy solid wood from second hand shops mostly. When they leave...

Maybe it's all in the sales pitch...

    Will not vacate

A few weeks ago, we put small signs on the backs of all room doors, warning that late stays will result in another day's charge. You've reminded me that it should also be on the slip they sign at check in. It's not been a problem here.....yet, but like many proceedures that have gone into...

To Flash or Not to Flash

Typically, we used to see guests who spent 20 minutes or more on our site were those who booked, now we're seeing 2 minutes or less before the booking comes in.

Maybe it's all in the sales pitch...

My husband told me to leave the zucchini out of the description of the zucchini/mushroom/extra sharp cheddar omlette. Now I just say 'mushroom/cheese'. Either way, clean plates come back.

    4am breakfast - I'm so happy

These guys were up, ready and hungry. They enjoyed the breakfast, loved the coffee, complimented profusely, and then they were off before I left for work. In late, out early. Works for us! The nearest McDonalds (or anything like it) is in the next county.
