    improving BB.com value equation?

We are seeing year over year gains of 40 to 50% in bedandbreakfast.com referrals despite no change in advertising mix with them. Kudos to them. Anyone else?

    the long tail

Paul, The wikipedia entry only focuses on the more popular version of "long tail"... those keywords that have low volume. The other version of "long tail" is keywords with three or more words. The two versions usually overlap, but not always. regards,

    Total of "indexed pages"

All, This post is SEO inside baseball FWIW. I'm posting because this is subtle enough that I've had trouble remembering, but important enough that I want to remember... so I think it's helpful to some here. Indexed pages is simply what's the count of pages that a search engine has indexed from...

    Privacy Policy

Joey, With regard to adwords.... from Brad Geddes "Advanced Google Adwords" p. 187 in a "Transparency" section: "If you collect personal information, such as email addresses...then adding a privacy policy can increase your landing page quality....". Privacy policy and SERP ranking is too hard...

    Privacy Policy

All, Word is that Google considers websites with privacy policies more trustworthy both for quality score within Adwords and search engine ranking in general. In continuous kowtow to Google... our bed-and-breakfast-privacy-policy.

Do you sell rooms on Hotels.com, Expedia etc etc?

Morticia, that "book it" button you see on bb.com on certain properties is for netrate. So, yes, it's on bb.com as well. This is daunting but the important truth that Tim Wilson at BB.com indicated to us and turned out to be true is that there isn't much flow there. We get less than a handful...

    SEO resource suggestions...?

I haven't read this recently but i'll point to its existence: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2008/11/googles-seo-starter-guide.html it's important to get google's perspective because you don't want penalties and they will tend to approach things from a cautionary standpoint. if you...

Bedandbreakfast.com reviews have not posted in months to Google.

Our tripadvisor reviews from December did finally post.

Bedandbreakfast.com reviews have not posted in months to Google.

I've noticed Tripadvisor reviews have not posted to Google local biz listings since October. And I've noticed the same seems to be true for BB.com. The Alps Inn in Boulder, CO has December reviews on BB.com that have not made it to Google. Can anyone else confirm these problems elsewhere...

    BedandBreakfast.com takes on Select Registry?!?

Copperhead, I realize you don’t feel served by this latest BB.com service and this is understandable, but perhaps you could find perspectives where it may indeed serve you: to the extent the “diamond” properties help carry BB.com’s operating requirements, there’s less weight for the “mom and...

    Google Analytics

The "Little Slice of Heaven" is text in a Corsiva font. It is not an image. You have two things to offer: location and lodging (by that or some other name). East Texas is an image and not text... why?

    Google Analytics

Hi, Texas... When you quote a single bounce rate (i.e., 50%) for your website, you are talking about an average. This means some referrers will be above that, some below. Who are the really bad referrers? If the bad referrers are search engines, what keywords are they bouncing on? I suspect...

Buying a B&B in foreclosure... the way to go?

All, A bit ago this story surfaced on innspiring.com: http://www.ocala.com/article/20090408/articles/904081006 … where an historic B&B, 10 rooms, rates of $150+ a night, fair market value in excess of $1 million, sold at foreclosure to the lender for $100,000. Effectively, there were no...

Do you sell rooms on Hotels.com, Expedia etc etc?

Hi, Bree... We have bed and breakfast in our name and our picture clearly shows a home, not a hotel box. I've talked about the "eco-hotel" thing before: we intend to have hotel-like occupancy so we introduce hotel keywords into our marketing message even though this is confusing. As a...

Do you sell rooms on Hotels.com, Expedia etc etc?

All, We used BB.com's netrate program for Expedia & Hotels.com starting September last year. Over our low season (November through April) we did almost $8,000 in business. We think we can do $25,000 to $30,000 in our shoulder months and low season because we got a slow start last year...

    TA & BANDB.com

I heard from John Banczak that this is just Tripadvisor doing what it wants to do to maximize its revenue. BB.com does pay for the referrals TA does make.

What happens when you SELL a B&B?

Hi, June - During the sales process, the buyer and seller should agree on how the purchase price is allocated. I believe there is even a federal tax form involved. The primary importance of the allocation is what taxes will be levied on the buyer going forward. Each of these types of property...

    Wow! Membership Renewal Fee!

John, A $400 silver bedandbreakfast.com subscription is supposed to produce 41 roomnights. With an ADR of $100 that produces a 10-fold increase in Revenues (i.e., $4100). I think revenues is what Bree is talking about. If she's talking about "income" not revenues, the relevant income is...

    Wow! Membership Renewal Fee!

Hi, Eric - We are supportive of Bedandbreakfast.com and are pretty locked in. However, that rate hike means we are going to drop our two secondary city listings and that means we will drop all of our inn-of-the-month bidding (because you don't allow the inn-of-the-month bidding from B&Bs in...

    BedandBreakfast.com Review Program

Hi, Samster... Google is processing through this change you reference on the local business results. Given all their computing power, their changes are unbelievably slow, as in super-slow-mo. Soon every result will be like yours.
