We have talked about networking many times. Here is another example of just being friendly turning into networking.
We had a new News Director at the talk radio station I listen to who moved here from a town in Ohio about 5 hours away - a town where my cousin actually graduated from high school! Just before Thanksgiving 2007 he was asked on air if he was going home for Thanksgiving and he said 5 hours one way was too far for one day. I e-mailed an invite to join us for our Thanksgiving on Sunday as we had guests for a package ON Thanksgiving. He accepted and a friendship was formed.
Last week he e-mailed asking if I would come on the program to do a tourism segment as he was devoting his Tuesday show to what there is to do locally. I was on for 10 minutes this morning talking about bed & breakfast, rail-trails, and my City. He mentioned my B & B by name several times. He REALLY talked up B & Bs. I said that most innkeepers have packages that have everything laid out for the guest and that here in WV, once they pay for their lodging on a package, about all they will have to spend from then on is for gas unless they want to buy something.
I could not afford to pay for the advertising Reuben gives me. He manages to mention my B & B by name fairly often.
