Hi guys! I was going to do this as a poll, but for some reason I'm on a cell phone an it will not let me.
My question is this. We are remodeling our last room and I think it would be cool to have a 3d-TV in it. My DW doesn't think people would like it, or use it. I think it would be a great amenity for advertisement. Any thoughts? Does anyone have one in their rooms?
Thank you!

I know nothing about 3d TV's but my gut says that anything that is nicer better etc is a good thing. Then looking at your place. High tech does not appear to be a theme. ;)

How much are the glasses going to cost you when you lose them or they break?

We were looking at them ourselves in the local supermarket as they were only about 100 more than regular flat screen. The only thing I don't understand is do you have to watch everything in 3d? can you watch it in normal if you want? ie might be a good thing for a large suite where you might have two televisions but i wouldn't want to watch everything in 3d. Now if you had said Smart TV's that might be the way to go?

Personally it would not sway me to stay there or pick that room over another if you had it. But that's me, I do like a tv at an inn for weather channel, news (I always enjoy local news wherever I go).
Bob, looking at your website it is almost an assault to the senses to have 3D TVs in that setting.

You guys sound like my DW!!!! The TV's can be watched in regular tv. The glasses are the new ones that only cost around $25 bucks. Joey, I understand completely it does not fit our decor. We remodeled all of the other suites with 37 inch flat screens an people love them. So, regardless I have to at least do that. My thought was that if a couple does not have one at home and they have always wanted to try one they might pick it. I appreciate your comments! Thanks everyone!

I guess to each his own. I am here watching the final landing of Discovery and people keep bugging me! I tell them "it's landing at Dulles right now!" No one seems to feel it is important! One gal came to the door with a brochure of our town with no map, and no one has a clue why...I had to get rid of her to watch this. http://www.nasa.gov/externalflash/discovery/index.html

I watched it too, JB! A great historic moment in my hometown. My nephew took some photos from the rooftop of his downtown building on The National Mall, which I shared on FB.

Bob, I just read in PC World that sales of 3D TVs are down. I wouldn't spend the money...just keep with what you've got in your other beautiful rooms which is more than many, many, many other B&Bs have.

Funny thing, I purchased a 52" 3D television for myself and of course the 3D blu-ray player to go with it. Normal channels aren't broadcast in 3D so you have to purchase special movies. Yes the glasses are expensive, $100 or so for one pair.
I found it to be such a pain switching the tv and blu-ray player over to 3D mode that I have yet to watch a single 3D movie. I just watch it in regular mode.
I hear they are developing a 3D tv for which you won't need the glasses. I don't believe it is on the market yet but I'll bet when it does become available it will be significantly more than $100 per television.
Most 3D tv glasses work by switching from one lens to the other although there are variations. From what I've read this switching effect can bring on seizures and convulsions. Not a very good thing.
I'd stick with a nice flat panel. If you want to upgrade go with a 120 or 240 Hz refresh rate. Even 1080p tv's often only have a 60 Hz refresh rate.
Am I being a bit "techy" here? Just the electrician in me coming out again.

Our main tv in the OQ is 3D. We haven't even bought a 3D blue-ray player. We tried one video game in 3D and it was terrible, switched back to regular.
I wouldn't waste your money and you KNOW those glasses are going to get lost, stolen or scratched.

I wouldn't bother. Folks on vacation can watch a 3-D in the theater. Our guests do not come here for the TV anyway. Although we do have flat screen sets in each accommodation, going further than that seems like a waste to me.

Would not be worth the money here in wine country. People only use the tv to check weather and news and watch movies in the evening. We have TV/DVD combos. Definately would not have a TV without a DVD for movie watching.
Maybe if you are in an area that has nothing to do and/or nothing to draw people to your location something like that might be an amenity that would draw people..

I do not know where Bob is, but I just got back from Vegas and in the entire time I was there, I did not turn TV on even once. And I did not spend all my time after the wedding in the casino - I am a 1 cent slots willing to lose $20 gambler. I came back with $18 in winnings. I rode the monorail and walked around but did spend a lot of time in the room relaxing. I looked out the window, knitted, and read. I have flat screen (26 in I think) in 2 rooms and an older 19 in I think in the third room. DVD in all rooms. I did not even get HD cable due to the cost. Regular cable is good enough for weather or whatever they want to watch for the one or two nights they are here. Save your money.
