It seems to me I saw this guy on PBS one day that had a book about natural remedies for gardens and lawns. He was touting recipes like mixing ammonia, chewing tobacco and some other stuff in certain ratios and spray in on your garden (obviously the fine details were lost on me). But I swear I remember him suggesting using old coffee for something and I made a mental note to use the extra coffee we have on occasion. The problem is my mental note must have gone through the wash and I can't remember what it was for (ridding roses of bugs or enriching soil or ?)
Any of you avid gardeners recall a remedy that used coffee as one of the ingredients? (yes I am looking for uses for stuff we often have extra of ... I hate waste)

We add our coffee grounds to our compost pile along with all our other organic waste.
As a side note: When I was a kid, my grandfather had one of those old large Coke ice chest that were used to ice down the Cokes in front of the stores and service stations. Anyway, he raised night crawlers in his shed inside this old Coke box and each day he would add the coffee grounds from breakfast to the soil mix. The worms loved it!

I've heard the coffee grounds thing, too, but am not sure in re what.
Vinegar works well for weeds that grow up on patios thru pavers. We have a brick patio and if you pour the vinegar on the weeds in broad daylight (you need the sun as well) the weeds shrivel up. If you add salt to the mix (remember the Bible stories) the weeds don't come back.
I may well start to put the coffee grounds in the mulch pile. It's tough, this being a small neighborhood and the guests of the inn next door have to walk past my not to tidy mulch pile!

WORMS LOVE COFFEE GROUNDS.
The acid in the coffee and ALSO tea leaves if you have those make happy plants, like rhodies, hydranga and other acid loving plants.
Best in the compost.

I found a link doing a google search for uses for coffee grounds... not just for your garden.

Very interesting articles. I took a few notes.
When I started this question I was originally thinking (partially remembering) a use for old coffee left in the pot once the guests leave. Some days we have little left and others we have way too much. It kills me to pour it out. I thought there was a use for that. I do like all the uses for the grounds though. That's pretty cool ...even though I am pretty sure I won't be using it on my hair, or rubbing it on the dog. ;)

I remember watching bits and pieces of that show on PBS that showed all kinds of uses for every day household items for the lawn and garden, but can't remember the details. Sorry! :-(
I ran across this blog about the guy I was thinking about(Jerry Baker): http://www.gardenrant.com/my_weblog/2006/06/jerry_baker_ame_1.html

LOL Yes that is the guy I was thinking of. Apparently it is a good thing that my brain couldn't retain any of the specifics .... at least that site you link to claims his recommendations are bad.
