early arrivals expected, but innkeepers themselves, and with no notice?

So it is our busiest time of the year. All rooms booked. Several rooms to turn completely after 11 am check outs and before before several new arrivals expected sometime after our well-stated 3 pm check in time. One couple arrives just after 1 pm...and detain one of the innkeepers many of those precious moments reserved for executing all those usually invisible fairy behind the scene tasks. Even after the keeper explained what we were all doing between check out and check in. We are usually not surprised when this happens and we eager check them in, etc., if their room is ready...but when it is folks who themselves have been innkeepers for years?! Didn't show them to their room as it was not ready, but 1 innkeeper greeted them, showed them around on first floor and gave them materials to find their way downtown for a couple of hours - our town is wonderful. Wouldn't you know it, they finally come back close to 6 pm. BTW, our comprehensive confirmation letter states the check in times clearly...and also we point out twice that if they expect to arrive outside our usual check in times, just give us a call. No call. From long time innkeepers. Amazing. Our last arrivals for today arrived at 11 pm, as we expected because of prior arrangements, newly weds still in wedding attire. They were as quiet as mice and we so enjoyed the extra efforts on our parts. Luckily the innkeepers seem like really great people. So I am not telling them we were surprised they arrived a couple of hours early with no prior notice. And we promise ourselves again we will NEVER do this at a bed and breakfast, unless the innkeepers have specifically invited us to come early. We have never done it before and we will never do it in the future. End of rant and off to bed. Just finished tomorrow's breakfast prep and headed for bed at 12:26pm. It is usually just the two of us; we do have a full time wonderful helper during high season.

mind you was at an event on wednesday - met a really nice bb lady who had just won a white rose tourism award (this is very prestigious) - told me her check in is 4 till 6! told her ours is 2-9.30 and they still turn up whenever they fancy!

Sorry Mountain Inn. We have said on this forum that innkeepers can be the worst guests...(no one from here, of course! Everyone here is stellar and considerate).

Sorry that happened. It is frustrating when guests arrive too early, but for innkeepers? They know better surely!

It's like doctors who smoke. Maybe those innkeepers have staff who take care of everything and they think everyone else does it the same way. There are innkeepers who do not do any of the grunt work, they schmooze.

I am so sorry that someone from our own industry would do that. As pointed out - they are probably "Newhart" innkeepers. Grrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!
