Ok...so my niece and sister came to visit. She sends me her photos in Facebook. Ok, so I bite and sign up. Had a welcome already from an inn mate here:)
But this is too weird....I did a search for my high school and low and behold..MY BEST FRIEND from HIgh School POPS UP!!!!!! I have not seen her or talked to her in over 10 years!!!! ANd of all things TODAY IS HER BIRTHDAY... I remembered that on my own:) (Play spooky music here please)

I am a closet Facebook lover. I hemmed and hawed over trying it out. Now, it's the second thing I check when I turn on my computer. First, it's email, then Facebook, then here...I have three tabs open the whole time I'm on the internet. It's addictive...kind of like this site!

I just recently got a call from a university classmate about a fellow student who recently passed away. She found an old Xmas letter from me and called and wanted help to find some of the rest of our group. I told her that I'd search via FB when I had a chance. She said that she barely reads her email. haha! I hope I can find some of the folks that I've lost over the years with our moves.

I love Facebook. I have connected with so many old friends and keep in touch with my guests with my personal page and my B&B Fan page. So much betterthan reconnecting with these folks by email...that would probably not happen anyway - and it takes too much time away from my being here!

A blurb here and there keeps us in touch and that is cool. If we want to follow up with more meaningful dialog - we can.
My best freind just got back from Michigan whee she vacationed for two weekes with old friends she found on facebook. Said it was the best vacation in years.
Be careful...before you know it you will be tweeting too!

ps -don't accept as friends ANYONE you don't know.

I deleted my Twitter account after I read a survey that most of the content (about 81% ) was inane drivel produced by bots or people with no lives.

yes like our congress men and women. Did you see them "twittering" away during the state of the union address???? GIve me a break!

I am a fan of FB. It took me a few months to "get it," but I love staying connected on a daily basis with friends and family across the country. I, too, only share with "Friends," and I only confirm those I **know**.
For what it's worth, I listened to a podcast on social networking being utilized for business. I completely understand how that works on Facebook; not so much on Twitter. (I have seen plenty of the drivel, though.)

Has anyone here ever had a booking come from being on FB or Twitter?

Not yet, but I'm still new in marketing our fan page - I don't really get Twitter so I'm just doing Facebook right now

Just joined FB a couple of months ago...I am addicted! I also only show my profile to friends that I accept and I must recognize the name before I make the contection.
I have made contact with many of my old friends (30years ago) and many have been very interested in coming to visit. Some of my closest (from the old days) have even been discussing having a mini reunion HERE instead of our hometown! That would be fun but I am also a little concerned over some of this, as you all may guess. But no need to get uptight until it starts to develop, then I will set my boundries.
I also set up a fan page for the B&B which I am suprised is starting to develop a fanbase on its own.

How do you set up a fan page? I have a FB page - actually 2, one for me and one for the B & B.

I was put off by it.
People who never communicate with their brother or sister whatsoever are on there every minute of the day. When I joined they told me "Good now you can view all the photos I post on my wall" I closed my account and walked away.
I was added by/to friends to people I have known throughout my life - half of them tried to sell me something, the other half were excited to catch up and posted about useless stuff and never emailed or contacted me like they said, in the 6 mo's I was on there. It was high school all over again. That was MY experience. Since then, the brother and sister have not sent any photos of their lives to us.
We all know the routine "We are so busy all the time" no one communicates at all anymore. But WE do. So I am not going back to it. Just my thoughts, not to put any one else off FB.

You have a fan page! (I also sent you a private note)

Facebook is love/hate, huh? I signed up a few years ago then got sick of the shallowness and wasted time, then signed up again later because I couldn't resist the ability to know and see what eeverybody is up to (and to satisfy my own narcissism of course). Somebody just told me 5 seconds ago they hate it when somebody tags them in a photo that they don't like. Imagine you sign in and see this ugly picture of yourself, that you never saw before, posted to 100 peoples' walls.
But I guess it is an opportunity for business. I can see how the fan pages could be handy for B&Bs to communicate with a following. I have plans to make a personality test FB app to direct traffic to one of my sites.

And... I was up at 5 AM looking at the radar during a storm last month. As soon as the Tornado sirens went off, my first thought was POST A FACEBOOK STATUS UPDATE! I didn't do it, but still I think it shows that social media can have a negative effect on the brain. Or maybe it's just my brain.

A friend of mine posted this link on her facebook, as a hint to some of her friends.

I had so much CRAP posted by other people on my page with contests, quizzes, etc that yesterday I went in and put several of them on hide. Oy vey! I do not care if you have nothing else to do except play games in Facebook. I do not want to hear what your kid did or see his photos/videos "in case you missed it" - that is by a County Commissioners wife!
