I use a Google Apps account (as well as a Gmail account) for all our email. Not to mention Facebook and Twitter. Yesterday, apparently Google had an outage and some people lost their data. Today, Lifehacker had an article on http://www.backupify.com and an offer of a code savegmail that gives a year's free service. I thought that I would mention it, in case anyone wanted or needed the backup service. Since we keep all our correspondence in gmail, backup isn't so stupid an idea.
(Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum... I'm a nube!)

Lifehacker posted another tool for Gmail backup. Works under windows and it's free. http://www.mailstore.com/en/mailstore-home.aspx

THIS is exactly why you need to configure your email to download to a program like Outlook where it is on your hard drive. (You have the option in most cases of saving a copy on your host as well - like Google or AOL.)

I do, but not everyone does that, especially considering the size of the mailboxes that companies like Google and now offering. From what I am told, Google is restoring all the mail from their backups, still, not a great feeling to lose everything, albeit temporarily.

If it is worth keeping/saving, then Cloud computing is not always the best way to go. I learned that the hard way when Webervations deleted all my future bookings credit card information. Redundancy redundancy...
