This USA Today article sounds like very good news for us. CDC has determined that it's quite unlikely C19 can spread from surfaces, like from doorknobs (and everything in a hotel room). While they don't say it's impossible to become infected that way (they will never say that), it's great news for our own safety, and for the confidence of guests wanting to travel.
I've been marking off 3 nights before and after each guest reservation, and I'll likely cut that back to 2 nights soon, and eventually to 1 night, as long as reports continue to be encouraging. Same day flips will remain a thing of the past, though, until we're sure it's safe.

I resent the implication that we did not CLEAN prior to them telling us HOW to clean.

Yeah, I’m not buying it. You can get colds and flu from surfaces. It doesn’t hurt to do the extra cleaning.
I’m pretty sure I read that my state is not requiring or recommending any shut down of rooms pre and post occupation. I’ve blocked one night, but I’m seriously considering now having a two night minimum that includes Thursday. If I have a one nighter on Thursday, that pretty much kills the weekend in that room.
I’ve already bought paper napkins and decorative top sheets to do triple sheeting. Taking your issues to heart, Arks, I’m going to put the duvet inside a cover and then do the triple sheeting around that.

We’re still waiting for the ‘final’ recommendations, but I’m using the restaurant guidelines for the breakfast ‘B.’

We’re really not going to have any guests until July. We’ve slacked off so much I just realized this is Memorial Day weekend and we haven’t put the A/C units in yet! Usually we’d be full and it would be 80+ here. But, empty and 70.

We have our first guests this weekend.
In-state couple coming to celebrate anniversary. We're having to let them know all the rules, and so far they've been very understanding of all of them.

i still haven’t done spring cleaning. This being ‘furloughed’ has sapped my energy!

You're not the only one who hasn't spring cleaned! And we still have yard work to do. No enthusiasm. Doesn't look like it's really going to matter... no one for June and nearly everyone for July is either thinking about cancelling or has already done so. August is already empty. Off today to drive around Lake Winni. Crazy being able to explore on Memorial Day weekend, for that matter, any day in late May onward. The silver lining, I suppose.

For a state that is supposedly closed to tourists - take a look at the license plates headed north. 40-50% of them at 10am this morning were from MA, CT, NH, and NY. Kayaks, bicycles, canoes all tied on top.
Can’t tell me they are here working.
Not that I’m in a big rush. This is the first time we’ve ever had this weekend off. Not going anywhere, just puttering around the yard.

I’ll be painting rooms next week. Then doing the spring cleaning. The yard is mostly done, just need some mulch.
My town is totally empty. Saw a single family on Main Street just now.

Life is good, Mort!
Bars are open again here. Worries me. When people have a few drinks, they lose all interest in masks, hand washing, distancing, EVERYTHING!
But I have no rooms available tonight, so there's that. One of them is actually a paid person. All the rest are just blocked off under my 3-day empty rule :-(

Life is excellent!

You can probably back off on your 3-night rule, even if you just go to 1 night but ask guests to open the windows when they leave. Unless it’s a bazillion degrees there already. We got to 84 today and that was toasty enough for me for awhile!

I agree. I've been watching the housekeepers and lately they've been going in on the 2nd day after checkout. So if they're cool with it, I am! I've only been marking off 3 days because I figured they would appreciate it. Plus, business has been so slow, I've always had availability...until tonight.

We have the 1 day, although business is slow so it can be 2 days or 3 or, well 8 or 10 :)
I do this for the housekeeper and to reassure guests. Surface transmission ("fomites" is the medical term) is a multi link risk and can be broken by you or the housekeeper washing and sanitizing for personal safety after touching any guest surfaces.
Trying to realize a new normal that is sustainable. Right now it seems that the hospitality industry is working twice as hard for half the money.

Yes, this news is a relief. I was so glad to see my favorite cleaning product back in stock at Costco. I was dreading running out.

I'm in the too slow process of clearing out no-longer-needed things. DH's boat was sold today. Bittersweet, but a family with kids (who enthusiastically were climbing all over it) drove it away on its trailer.
Onward.

In my area, occupancy is permitted at 100%, although few are actually at that level. In the neighboring state county nearest here, hotels are limited, but STRs are allowed at 100%.
Rules vary so much state to state and county to county!

At the beginning of all this our health department emailed all the local inns, saying continue what you are doing. What you are already doing is what is now recommended for everyone.
I'm getting used to a more bleachy smell at the Post Office when I go to get my mail!

I bought a canoe for Himself for Christmas one year. We used it some, but not a lot. We brought it with to WV - and used it never.
One year, just before Father's Day, we had the then Minister at the local church's brother and family stay.Rev looked at us as the parsonage annex. Brother was working away from his home & had to leave before the wife & kids did. She & I had been talking about the canoe earlier. End of story is she bought the canoe & they left with it on the roof of the car & oars & life vests in the trunk as a Father's Day surprise. They were happy and so were we (and so was our neighbor as it was on the narrow strip of property long his house that was his property).
Happy Father's Day to all who are Fathers.
