I've made it to the big time. Lady calls at 10pm to ask about reserving a room for next weekend (homecoming at the university and she's going only because her college student son wants her there). I'm full on Friday night, everybody paying full rates. She really wants Thurs-Sun, so that won't work for her. She asks about Sat & Sun. I quoted regular rate, she said "can't you do any better?", I gave her 20% senior discount. Email this am--- Am hoping that maybe you might reconsider reserving me a room for SAT and SUNDAY at a more reduced rate of $85.00 per night. I really am eager to see my son, but honestly between the gas, the rental car, food and everything else it is difficult for me at this time.
So, now I get to complain just like all you innmates who are in high volume tourist towns. I felt left out because we have so few times when rooms are at a premium here and I haven't had anybody ask for that much of a discount when most of the rooms in town are full.
That price is at least $20 per night less than I give business people or frequent flyers. ( Area code says West chester County NY.) Just like owners response on TA I wrote the reply I would've liked to send, then I replied sorry that our generous discount didn't fit her budget
.

That is WAY to much to take off. She'll not find anything else so she'll save all of her money.
I HATE people playing that poor old me card. Guess what, if you can't afford it you don't get to do it. It's called budgeting.

BTW, we get this almost everyday of the week. And definitely every walk-in tells us they were only planning to spend half of what we're charging.

Way to go Innkeep!
(I won't be in the room much..., I don't need a large room..., )
Try to cheapen all you do, it is irritating, and yet humorous at the same time.

Had a lady tell me over the phone that she only pays that much when she really goes on vacation! Oh well she isn't staying with us!

Well booooo hooooo hoooo. Tough luck. She can find another place. You do not need to give your rooms away. Stick to your guns. You have to do the work and you deserve to be paid. Don't let anyone talk you into anything.

I always try to think of this as an opportunity from someone nicer to come along and rent the room instead.
She could, of course, cut back on the meals, take Greyhound, etc etc etc. It's all choices. And she's decided that you are low man on the totem pole. You are worth more than that.
Let her go to P-line... someone needs to sell their room at a discount because they have rooms with horrible smells, bad housekeeping, mould, mildew, old mattresses and the room is next to the ice maker.

I'm sure like us there are other cheaper options available in your area and I'd point them in that direction. We don't do discounts, so if the want something cheaper there's a tra vello dge on the commercial park on the outskirts of in ver ness and there's another one next to the busy a9 if you don't mind the traffic noise. Go try them if you want cheaper.
Why would any business give discount on a weekend that they're busy, these people.

We don't discount during a busy season. Period. If we have set our prices based on expected occupancy then we accept the chance that this year might be different and our prices might be higher than some want to pay. Funny thing is....we still get our price and fill up.
In the slow season, if we are needing to improve our occupancy we might offer some specials, but we don't negotiate with people who call at the last minute. We have decided how much our time and energy are worth and will not accept less.
So stick to your guns and it's just TOOO BADDDD for her.
