Hello Innmates! I'm back online now that the library is open again. The website changed since last time I was here. Due to not having many hours at the B&B I got a job at a hotel! (Gulp) They are quite different all around! It was a little shocking! But I survived the change and blame it all on covid! Before you tar and feather me and dump me off this website... I just wanted to say hi! Grin!

I’m sure the stories you’ll be able to tell will be eye-opening!

Welcome back, and yes, tell us how the other side of the hospitality industry lives!

Grin! Its all about time. Everything needs to be done now. I found out the manager get a bonus for the work being done before a certain time so its push, push, push to get everything done as soon as possible. Their favorite worker can do 4 rooms an hour.

I have one housekeeper who can do 1 room in 4 hours. But I pay her by the job, not by the hour, and she does a magnificent job. She's just obsessive about cleaning (she'd almost do it for free) and the guests are always commenting on how clean the room is. Luckily, since I'm still putting a "dead" day after each guest leaves, she has plenty of time to clean at her own pace.

But I've asked her, does she really need to dust the baseboards again on Thursday if she just did it on Tuesday. She swears it's essential. I don't argue!

Wise move. Does she have a twin?

No twin, unfortunately. She and my sister went together to have a big yard sale a couple of weeks ago. She spent the whole night before the sale, cleaning all my sister's items (which my sister thought were already clean). She rents 2 mini-storage units she uses to store stuff she doesn't have room for at home. She goes every week and cleans everything in each storage unit!! The sad part is, she's my age (66) so I don't know how many more years she can keep it up!

Good housekeeping is hard to find, we are lucky too. Guess it depends on how big the room is but ours teams up and 2 can throughly clean a room an hour.. as long as its getting done..be happy!

Arks has more like apartments than a room. Huge with bedroom, bathroom (huge with ALL the niceties), laundry area, and kitchen. They are gorgeous and total luxury! To do his in an hour would be a "lick & a promise" as we say in West Virginia.

I have 2 apartments like that, but also have 3 "suites" that are just bedroom and bathroom (these 3 were added after your long-ago visit). I've cleaned the smaller ones myself, many times, in 1 hour each. But I'm happy for "miss perfect" to take 4 hours.

She's a real gem! Speaking of gems, a few months ago she took a week off to visit Arkansas's Crater of Diamonds State Park. Arkansas is the only state with diamonds, and the state park lets you have-at-it and keep any diamonds you find. More than 75,000 diamonds have been discovered there since 1906.

My housekeeper spent a week in the dirt looking for a diamond, found nothing, but probably perfectly cleaned a lot of rocks! But on the way home, she stopped at the casino in West Memphis, Ark, and on her second coin in the slot machine won $3500!

Just a few days ago, a lucky woman at the state park took home a 4.38 carat diamond! See article HERE.

We knew about it but in all the trips we made to Arkansas, never stopped there. John's parents retired to Hot Springs. After Papa died, she moved to Eureka Springs.

We have one of those as well. She mostly cleans our cottages and she is there ALL DAY! But she is meticulous and we get compliments about how clean and fresh smelling the cottages are. We pay her by the job as well.
