I read this could not be arsed to fill in little forms all the time would find it super annoying. i do do trip adviser reviews an unless it was dire do a good review as I understand how important these are to owners.

Hotels take comment cards very seriously as well as online reviews, people get fired or disciplined over them
If you have never been asked about your stay check the hotel stationary or guest service book, there is usually a comment card in there. In addition most hotels usually email you to do a survey after you have checked out, if they have your email address and if you have not opted out.

I haven't been asked once how my stay was..

R YE KIDDING? They will when they send you coupons for your NEXT stay as your reward, as a way of thanking you...thanking you right back into their payment scheme. Let me know when it happens...it will.

Trouble is i think that there is too much feedback nowadays it is every where you do anything or see anything you have to report it everywhere to everyone at once. When did just doing things stop?

OK, so they never asked how was my stay but YES I did get the 'first ever e-newsletter' (so they claimed in the subject line) from them. Which I didn't read. I am not their favorite kind of guest (in Vegas) as I do not stay in the casino at all. I walk thru because I have to but I'm headed for the door looking neither left nor right. They made money on me for breakfast tho. What did I say the price of eggs, toast & bacon was? $9-$12 each I think. The breakfast tab was about $30/day.

I hate when I buy a book online from a dealer and before I even have the book they want me to rate the sales experience. Leave me alone. Some of them send 2-3 emails reminding me to leave a review. If they keep annoying me, they will wish they hadn't asked.

The 2 large home improvement stores and many grocery stores call your attention to the bottom of the never ending reciept where it says 'provide feedback and you get a chance to win $XX' These are usually not reviews seen by the public but for customer satisfaction. Do they really read each one... I doubt it seriously. (otherwise there would be more cashiers open during peak hours)

Ah, therein lies the rub...it's a sop. If they give you a place to complain, where you think, maybe, someone is listening, you're less likely to go shopping somewhere else.
I have a receipt here somewhere from CVS....I bought 2 greeting cards. The receipt is FOURTEEN inches long. If you have a shopper card (which I don't but I give them my friend's phone number and she has one) they tell you everything you've earned YTD, what you need to spend to get your next bonus bucks and what pharma items you might want to stock up on based on previus purchases, which could be embarrassing. (Hey Mandy, there's a coupon for condoms at the bottom of the receipt. I didn't even know you were dating again.)

The chance to win $$$ is just another way to track you and your purchases. Our Funnies has a strip called Retail. They have been running How You Say It all week ie Panel one has a big sign 6% discount with a shopper saying, "You call that a sale?" The next panel is tax free day with shoppers rushing into the store. Today it is Panel #1 the sign is 50% off and the shopper says great I will take one. Panel #2 says Buy One, Get one free and the shopper says, Great! I will buy 2. yesterday it was about singing for the "shopper card" when it is stated would you like to sign up for this card that will track your shopping habits? the answer was no BUT when it ws put - Would you like to sign up for our rewards card the answer was yes.
So call or log-in to give feedback so they know who you are, what you bought, where and when so you have a CHANCE to win $10,000 (and what decade is the drawing date and how many are in the pool?....)

I hate the stupid buy one, get one at half off. I want one at 25% off. I don't need two.

If I understand the initial question, then I think it referred to on-line reviews of B&Bs, such as Trip Advisor or B&B.com.
I have a love-hate response to these sorts of sites. We have primo, gushing reviews about our place on those sites, but it bugs the, er, heck, out of me that every time we get another review, we get additional e-mails (and recently, telephone calls) wanting us to purchase a "business listing" for some outrageous sum of money.
"Why should I pay you money to promote my site when you don't give me the opportunity to challenge a negative review?"
That being said, we get a significant amount of business from people who read our on-line reviews. And anybody who is savvy enough to find them is certainly smart enough to find our website without us paying $300+ for TA to advertise them.
