Is anyone else amazed by the end of the month auctions from b e d and b reak fast dot com? I just watched a neighboring city's inn of the month auction reach $1,525 before the auction was finally closed at 14 or 15 minutes after the cutoff time. WOW!

Are you kidding? Will the inn of the month add really pay for that in that location? That's absurd. Unless having the inn of the month designation is going to bring in an ADDITIONAL $5k+ it's not worth it. Not JUST $5k, but $5k MORE than would have been.
Wouldn't google adwords be cheaper?

Nope, not kidding. Bidding is so fierce in that city that the very second bid for the inn of the month was $700, so the bidder must have just decided to cut to the chase and start very high. They must think it is worth it. Impossible to tell how many inns were in the bidding. And bidding is allowed as long as there is a higher bid within a certain number of minutes, so the cutoff time gets extended in the site'$ favor. Tomorrow the winner will be the inn of the month. Here is how the bidding progressed. Only the immediate past 10 bids are listed at one time, and I didn't copy the first two; the first one was very small, and the second one was a whopping $700:

I'm guessing at the city and looking on b&b.com to see if the RATES justify the bidding. It looks like some places could cover that tab by getting 2-3 rooms out if it. And, again guessing on the city, with that many B&B's listed and 16 of them diamond collection it's no wonder they spend like that to get to the top of the list.
However, that still needs to mean that they see enough traffic from their listing to justify it. But, to pay the thousands it costs to be a diamond property and then fork over another $1500 in ONE month is crazy talk! Unless it's worth thousands more to be at the top.
What would be interesting to know is whether or not any of the lower tier (silver, gold) get ANY business with all of the other places paying big bucks to be at the top?

They go quite high here in the summer months. I can't imagine bidding their numbers.
