As long as you "work it right" I think it is something a business has to do. Make your posts interesting, quizing, develop relationships, Just don't post what's for breakfast or how your day is going...BORING....

I am up to 2070 friends now though do have a fan page as well though thats not as popular. Only 1 of them stayed before they became friends with me so I figure its a very cheap way to speak to 2000+ people and offer them a special offer. It also means I am presented to their friends as someone they might be interested in being friends with. Once you get past a certain point it becomes self perpetuating ie I am now getting about 5 friend requests a week minimum and all I have to do is accept them, they are opting in to hear what I have to say and be receptive to my offers costs nothing.
