Last night we were having dinner and the table behind us had 2 small kids. The restaurant owner also has a little kid so he has provided a large basket of toys and books for kids to use while they're dining. These kids had the whole side of the restaurant to spread out and they were quite happy with the toys.
The moms were chatting with the waitress who told them she's a PT nursery school teacher and does the before & after school programs at the elem school in town. Moms were obviously impressed and asked if she ever does babysitting? Waitress said at present she has x hours open during the day, will have different hours in the summer.
Moms were interested in her babysitting for them. (Kids were around 5-7 years old.) They're talking rates and asking for phone number of waitress when one of the mothers says, 'I assume the school did a background check on you before you were hired. Who can I call to get that information?'
Really? That's the reality now? You do a background check on a babysitter? Or you call their employer and ask for the results of the background check?
The waitress was telling them they could call the school to get a reference but the mother kept correcting her saying, 'No, your background check. The criminal check the school does, who do I call to get that information?' The waitress ended up saying she didn't know who would have the results, she presumed they could call the town offices and ask there.
