Lost Internet Friday

Small by compare but I lost Internet Friday evening. Still down. Thanx to iPhone I can check email for Rez. What gripes me is that they do not put it on the news or anything so you know. I had the PC geek in town make a house call to find out if it was my system. He called Frontier & their first answer was that Internet & system were OK. He asked for tech support & they finally admitted 6 cities are without Internet. Grrrrr I am still down! Tomorrow I start calling about an adjustment on my bill!!! No Internet is killing me!!!! WHINE!

Order of operations:

• Is it plugged in?
• Is it turned on?
• Is the cat sitting on it?
• Call the provider.
• Call for paid help.

Computer was working - still is. I am ticked that I called for paid help and HE is the one who finally got the admission that the Internet system is down in 6 cities in WV. It is a problem in Charleston - not a city that got dumped on! It is that people will will be calling in PAID help for no reason that gripes me. No cat -I am violently allergic to cats.

I didn't mean the computer itself, it was a general list. If there was no internet- was the router plugged in, turned on, cat not sitting on it, call your provider first...

I am on Frontier. Most around me - the City - are on a different provider. We know now that there is a problem in Charleston. Last time this happened I happened to have a guest working north of us. She told us the office she was working in - a doctor - was offline all day due to a cut cable in Parkersburg. So not the first time. My first thought was router - unplugged & replugged. Then thought maybe now unused cc machine. Had computer guy come over. Still offline darn it!!!

Internet FINALLY came back this morning - as I was kvetching to Customer Service that I expect an adjustment on my bill! Then I still was not "online" - I knew it was up now because the modem had the 3 green lights. So I called the kid back over. Probably (my thought) after straining its guts all weekend to get online, the router gave up. New router coming today. Meanwhile I am on "straight pipes" through the computer. I am online again!!! WOOHOO!!!
Adding we are fortunate that a local kid opened a new PC shop in town on October 1 - and he advertises that he makes house calls. Smart kid!!
Update: He came back with the router and had the same problem the other guy had when installing the original router - they were not talking to each other. Five frustrating calls to the DSL provider later to no avail (first guy when I got the first router had the same problem with Veri zon when THEY owned us but finally got the answer) and then tried something for a what the heck effort and it worked. Having been through the scenario before, I knew it was not a case of the kid not knowing his stuff.
Going to bed now - working the polls tomorrow so will check back in late tomorrow night (I am also Escort Commissioner so ride shotgun with the ballot box to the courthouse).
