I thought I'd start a new thread, because the original "silly season has begun" has gotten quite long. Yup, the sillyness continues!
Last night I got a call from someone who says they are in the nearby town. Great, I think I'll be able to rent my last room for tonight. She says, "I'm on your website and I see you have a piano!". Yes, we do, I reply. "Well, my partner plays piano and is itching to play. Can he come over and play your piano?" I told her that the piano is only for guests.
Doh! That's all I need is for some Liberace to come and play chop-sticks or even if he knew what he was doing, the answer is no, unless you are a guest or I have hired you!

I am still getting calls from potential guests who after I tell them we are closed, ask me what amenities the other B&B offers. I give the caller their phone number to ask THEM!! Do I know how these other people run their business? No. All I know is what I read on TA....disappointed guests who talk about them not having the amenities as offered on their website. I'm not getting into that can of worms...

OK, that beats anything I could come up with.
Mine was just the bazillionth call to put 5 people in one room. They need 2 queen beds and a pullout couch. Geez louise, call a hotel. How big do they think B&B rooms are anyway?

That's not silly...that's just plain CHEAP!!!

That is crazy. I guess you could have said: Yes, that will be $$$ and it comes with the use of a guest room!

I had a call from someone who wants to stable their horses and stay in their RV - sorry, doesn't work that way. DH had a call while I was at church wanting to stable the horses but she has a motorhome. DH tells her that the arrangement is for people to stay here while they stable the horses. "No, I don't need the B & B so just give me the number of the stable." She was NOT happy with him when he said he could not do that.
He knew I did all the advertising etc but I told him something I thought he already knew - they only stable horses for MY guests.

No carbs- what would you serve for a 7-night stay? Remember, we don't do veggies.

What the???? I just can't believe some people. Does it seem it is getting worse??? I don't ever remember getting any stupid requests like this. DUH people...what are you thinking?

lots of eggs, eggs baked with cheese, scrambled eggs (throw some sour cream in them before scrambling, bacon, sausage, if they can eat fruit, then pile it on. you can do a European type breakfast with sliced cheeses and meats.

It's probably going to be scrambled everyday as we are really not set up for multiple meals that involve baking while trying to cook on the griddle and fry on the stove. I checked and during the stay we also have diabetics and no dairy on some of the same days. Every other day they will be ok because we'll be making some sort of egg dish anyway. So I can plan it that they get the most days with eggs that is also what we are serving everyone.
And that special diet thing always means SOMEONE will see what they're having and say, 'I thought we HAD to have what you posted. I want THAT instead.'
It's hard explaining that we don't have a huge stock of food to just pull out of the fridge (even tho everyone can SEE the kitchen it teensy) when someone starts asking for 'other food' because they see another guest got something different.
Altho, will say I am better at saying, 'We asked in advance if there were things you couldn't eat. With nothing to go on, I serve what he (point to Gomez) wants to cook.'

More silliness...just offered rooms in emergency situation for $80/night. Got turned down. Why bother even trying to be nice?

3 humans & 2 horses. Offered the 2 rooms sharing bath w/escort from Interstate (reg $95 each + $20 for escort) for $175 + tax (horses are $25 each @ stable - no negotiate). She says too much. I say OK, sorry and think that is that. She just e-mailed - how about we take one of those rooms and bring an air mattress for the floor? I reply - we do not do air mattress. I offered (and explained it is only because of the horses who have no choice in the matter as I am about the only place between the East Coast & Kentucky - they are in Vermont) to set up a cot and forgo the escort fee for $100 + tax with a lite breakfast but they have to understand that IF I get a reservation for the other room, the bath will be shared since I cannot afford to not rent the other room. I told her to call me if that was acceptable. It will be interesting to see if she will call.

I agree....I would not bow to those kinds of demands..I don't care if I have no one. It is not worth the grief nor the $100 ....and you can bet she will be a PITA in one way or another when she arrives.

That was a couple hours ago - still no call. I am NOT crying if she does not call.
My birthday boy and his wife just arrived. They are such a joy. Last year I had a call from one of his teachers (he is a principal) who said Frank told me I HAVE to bring my wife here. When the teacher left, he said "as much as Frank said about this place, he did not tell me the half of it!" This kind I love to see. This is their 3rd visit. They just asked where I am sending them tomorrow. They were up north today and have already been to the winery and to the Wildlife Center so I guess it will be Blackwater Falls and Arthurdale tomorrow.

K - you ARE too nice! If they have horses, you can BET they can pay your price. Horses are not cheap to own. If they could not find another place - which you say they can't, they would be calling you back begging to take you up on it.

I know that but that is OK. The other stable is another 2 hours + south of me - almost to Kentucky and was described just last week as a unique experience. 3 other guests told be the getting to it is "interesting" and there is no place to turn around. Turning a 30 ft rig with truck attached does need some space. Actually, I hope she goes there. Next time she will not quibble and I will not be so willing to give her a break. The girls are competing in dressage at Kentucky Horse Park.

I would offer eggs cooked however (they tell you the night before) and that is that. It's not that big a deal to fry an egg instead of scrambling it.

That is so bizzare, I can't beleive it.
The strange thing I'm getting a great deal is:
Telephone call:
Caller: Do you have a room for the xth of August
Me: No, sorry we're fully booked that night
Caller: Oh ok. How much do you charge per night?
Me: £x per person per night
Caller: Oh right. Is there someowhere to get an evening meal near you?
Me: Yes.......

And it goes on......what's the point of asking all these questions when we've already established at the start that we don't have rooms on the days they want?
