JB - I have to add this is all new info but we already know this, don't we innmates! Except maybe AUTHOR weight, meaning long standing heavy reviewer holds more water than a one off. YES! THIS IS GOOD INFO!
 
We did know all of that cuz we're brilliant!
Even reading other info we know no one believes the one-off writers, they're shills. Someone finding the info 'helpful' gives weight but it's a bad way to do it. I could have friends get accounts and just go tick a few of them every now and again.
We just had guests here who sat in front of the house reading our reviews before they knocked on the door. What did they want to know? 'So what's the deal with "poor" review?' Yeah, years later and everyone zeroes in on that one review.
So, a 4 star review from a 'seasoned reviewer' carries a lot more weight than 5- 5 star reviews from the one-offs. I struggle with this all the time.
 
That was very interesting. Didn't know about Revinate. Their article on how to respond to online reviews is very helpful.
 
Ok, folks - here's a question about bad reviews: Has anyone ever encountered what may be a reviewer with - well, with what seems to be a pathology? We've got someone who seems obsessed with damaging us - this person seems to either be in the business or knows marketing and customer service very well - and has a nasty vendetta streak - and apparently a lot of time to kill. The person never stayed with us - just interviewed us over the phone - constantly mentioning (out of 60 or so good reviews over the last 3 years) - the three bad ones on our TA/Bedandbreakfast.com sites.
How does one respond on TA? Is there a way to post a response?

YEs of course, you can post a management response to any TA review.

Has this person written a review that you know of or do they just call asking about the reviews? If they have written a bad review or multiple bad reviews you MIGHT be able to do something about the repeat offenses. If they're just aggro but looking for a reason to write something bad, the best you can do is treat them well and try to be sure they never stay with you.
On TA you can do a mgmt response. You have to sign up as the owner of the property first. On B&B.com I think they do some research before posting a neg review. But I could be wrong. You can also post a response there as well. And on Yelp, too.
