My parents have a major anniversary next May, and have always spoke of going to Niagara Falls - they have been everywhere but not there, yet.
I can google and get deals etc, but wanted to ask for recommendations.
It is 10 hours drive from here to Niagara. They will be driving back across the country from CALF to MidAtl in April.
THANKS!
Updated: I forgot Dad is not allowed to enter Canada again. So it needs to be the US Side.

Instead of a 10 hour drive - send them here as my guests on their way. That will make it a much more pleasant trip and less hours on the road in one stretch. (We are not out of the way either.)

My suggestion was going to be for Niagara on the Lake but now I would rather know why your dad is banished from Canada! No, I'm not going to ask, I'm just going to sit here and wonder.
Scots guests here just came back from Niagara so I will ask them where they stayed.

It has been way tooo long ago for me to provide any info and we did stay on the Canada side back then as well. The views are far more spectacular from the Canadian side. (Just sayin')

To be honest, if he can't enter the Canadian side, there isn't much point to going... the views are all on the Canadian side. We stayed on the US side, you miss the view and all. And the beautiful B&Bs are in Niagara on the Lake. (We too have our regrets.)

Not even worth going from the US side? I have heard that in the past. What if he does the maid of the mist boat does it go over to the Canadian side to view it?

Everyone I've talked to has said the best views are from across the border.

But the wings are better on our side. haha
I might have to rethink this. Dang. This is a big anniv and the family are spread out intl, so that is out. Don't want to "send them" to hawaii and such. I wanted it to be a drive trip. I will re think it. Mom is not as mobile, so even tho Dad wants to see NYC she won't be able to do it, and they would never do a 'tour'.

I'm going to make an assumption and guess what's keeping your dad from our side of the border... has it been over 10 years? Completely clear since then? Was he once warned at the border and given a specific date at which time he would be readmitted?
Usually they forgive and forget if you are totally honest after 10 years. Just don't get anything that has cancellation charges, so if something happens, he can just not show up.
Did you think of sending them on a closed-loop cruise?

I think you have to go into Niagra Falls to take the Maid of the Mist. The AMerican side from what I remember is nothing. I woudn't even bother.

Guests just said Red Coach Inn or the Seneca-Niagara Casino as places they would stay.

The Canadian side is better, but that doesn't mean you can't see anything from the American side. It's just that the Americans decided to keep it natural (and it was the first park in America to try to do that). So, it's very natural, and lovely, and the view of the falls is more from the side than from across the way.
We were there in November. It was cold and dark and we had a great time. But then we went across to the Canadian side where there is a TON of touristy stuff. The only touristy thing we did was to ride the Skywheel. And a forum friend recommended a fabulous hotel to stay in, The Best Western Cairn Croft. It was not right on the river, but they had a really nice pool, two hot tubs and a play area, all indoors, and perfect for my boys.
The views are not as spectacular, but there are things to see and do on the U.S. side, too. If you have passports, and are there for a day or two, you could leave dad on the U.S. side while the rest of you just go across, see the view from the other side, and cross back over. You wouldn't even have to change money!
I'm going to the Grand Canyon in November... maybe I should start a new thread on that!
=)
Kk.

My brother in Florida called me last night to find out where I would be (in his words - physically, not mentally) on Nov 19. He is going to Niagara Falls and will be within 15 miles (round trip) of me and thought he had best stop by.
He told me he was surprised to find that it is a "seasonal" place and could only find ONE RV Park that will take them. I think it is their 40th anniversary so he, his wife, youngest daughter and daughter's girlfriend are going to the Falls. In November!!! He said, if you get a paying guest, you take them. We will have our bedroom with us.
