A sharpie (any color) + A porcelain dish(You can even use super cheap mugs from the dollar store!) Just draw and bake it for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Allow them to cool completely before washing or using

I can tell you that if you get it anywhere near bleach, it will come off. We have white ceramic large ramekins and when I get a guest with a dietary restriction, I use a sharpie to make a good sized dot on the outside of the ramekin so I don't get the dish mixed up in the oven. The dotted one goes to the dietary restricted person. It bakes for 30-45 minutes at 365. If it's washed with just soap and water, it stays. But it comes off very easily when I spray it with Clorox Clean-up.

BD is right the bleach will take it right off, but if you use a porcelain pen and then bake, it works much better and is dw and bleach resistant.
