I have always said that my son caused me to do much more than I would have without him constantly challenging me.

Thank you for these! Some days I can use all the encouragement I can get!
Today happens to be one of those days.

Hi JBJ, it looks like you get inspiration every day with proverbs. It is a nice attitude. Do you share it with your web visitors on one of your page ?

"Come to the edge."
"We can't. We're afraid."
"Come to the edge."
"We can't. We will fall!"
"Come to the edge."
And they came.
And he pushed them.
And they flew.
(Guillaume Apollinaire)
Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish, in lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle. The world you desired can be won. It exists, it is real, it is possible, it is yours.
(Ayn Rand)
Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the things you did do. So throw off the bowlines! Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the tradewinds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Some farm and ranch wisdom (with credit to Murdochs).
  • LIfe is simpler when you plow around the stump.
  • Words that soak into your ears are whispered, not shouted.
  • Do not corner something that is meaner than you are.
  • It doesn't take a very big person to carry a grudge.
  • You cannot unsay a cruel word.
  • When you wallow with the pigs, expect to get dirty.
  • The best sermons are lived, not preached.
  • Most of the stuff people worry about isn't going to happen anyway.
  • Don't judge folks by their relatives.
  • Silence is sometimes the best answer.
  • Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll enjoy it a second time.
  • Don't interfere with something that's not bothering you.
  • If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.
  • Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.

No, I have quotes here and there when I need them. On our blackboard in the dining room I have an Autumnal quote. On wedding cards I put a special quote, or anniversaries. I don't get any in my email now, about 4 years ago I did and rarely read them, I had a couple diff inspirational websites send me a quote or thought for the day. I have since changed that email acct and have not signed up for any new ones. I think some of my favorite quotes came from WORD OF THE DAY - which I thought would increase my vocabulary. Many of them were words I had never heard or nor would use, so I stopped that one.

Did you know Mark Twain used to write a letter a day and toss them out the window? Someone would always find them and mail them for him. Someone just back from Missouri told me this. Not sure if it is true or not, but it sounds like something he would do!

Dh is a city boy... when we pass cows he moos. It used to make me crazy (being a country girl) but now it's a family joke.
When we first met and married he was very naive. How naive, you ask? Well, while dating we had no car and we were riding with a friend from Ohio to come and visit our families. I looked up at some cows on a hillside and said, "Look, there's some of those cows with two legs shorter on one side than the other." Our friend looked up and said, "Oh, yeah!" Dh (boyfriend at the time) looked up, too.
A year later we were married and driving across Ohio. Dh saw some cows on a hill and asked, "Are those some of those cows with two legs shorter on one side than the other?"
I looked up and said, "Yep, there they are."
Shortly after he asked me, "How do they go up and down the hill?"
I said, "They have to go around."
He said, "Some of them are facing a different direction."
I said, "They have to go the other way..."
And I began to realize he'd believed it for an entire year, just as it dawned on him that it was all a joke that was too old to be funny.
He refused to believe anything I told him for years.
