Trip Advisor - What a tyranny!

Ok, so I had an unruly group of wedding revelers here last month - I believe I've "bleated" about that already. They were drunk, disorderly and in the hot tub until 3am. When I came out to tell them cease and desist, the groom confronted me in the most aggressive way - and was restrained by his fellow revelers.
The coup de gras, of course, is that they posted an untrue "review" on Trip Advisor complaining that the innkeepers were difficult to deal with!
I emailed TA with MY version of the story - I wrote every department I could find - and the response I got from TA was a letter and decal in the mail stating that I was now "recommended" by Trip Advisor, and inviting me to give them some money to join their business listings with website link. BAH HUMBUG. Went to TA for my town - and - no "recommendation" of any kind by TA could be found on my google business listing.
What is to be done against the tyranny of Trip Advisor? At least on BedandBreakfast.com you can talk to someone directly about review abuse.
My husband and I have been professional actors and directors for over 35/30 years - gee, you'd think we would be used to reviews! But at least the reviewers were employed by newspapers and held responsible for what they write - not so with the folks who use Trip Advisor to vent their "spleen".
Anybody ever read Dame Diana Rigg's book on theatre and reviews, "No Turn Unstoned"? It could apply to Trip Advisor!! Maybe I simply need to summon my sense of humor??

Sorry we hear you.... but if you have read all the posts here about TA, you know it is bigger than all of us put together.
Jay at PAII is working on them but there is only so much he/ we can do. They are in business and making $$ is what it is all about. People read reviews. the best you can do is post a professional management response and move on. If most of your review are positive people see right through the one or 2 negative ones. I for one always check TA when I travel. That is just the way it is.

GC there is a phone number and email contact on this forum for a PERSON at TA. I hope someone can locate that for you asap.
Just read it - your response makes total sense from the outside looking in, I think anyone reading it will see those guests were bad news. Well done. Don't lose a ton of sleep over it, I think you handled it nicely. Your other reviews are detailed and share how wonderful your place and you are.

I just read the review and your owners response. Anyone reading it would be able to see your side of it and wouldn't hold it against you. You did a great job of professionally communicating the situation.

Beats me. I did post my place, but as you know, we get buried so deep into the structure of TA that it's impossible to find. I've never received a review on TA good or bad.

My friends here who have the two cottages on the river have experienced the same. Since they opened 2 years ago, they've only received two reviews, one by me after we stayed there a night during the week they opened, and one by a friend of theirs from Little Rock who spent a weekend there a month later.
They are busy all the time. Strange how some places get lots of reviews and some places get few or none.

I think we get a lot of reviews because we send a thank you email after guests stay, and IF they really gushed over the place, we include a link to our TA listing and an invitation to tell others what they liked about our place. We've been victimized on TA too, with our only bad review from a total nutcase, but the response makes the case, and everyone knows, there's one in every bunch.

Sorry this happened to you! Just remember that the truth will out....I learned the hard way that it's not worth it to get all upset by some knucklehead's review. People will figure it out by looking at your good reviews. I know that it stings though...

Anyone can post a review about any place. They don't have to have signed up for TA.

We also send a thank you, but with a link to B&B.com I'm not messing with TA. You have little or no control over the reviews posted there.

PT - there is no signing up necessary with TA - If you are open, they will list you - they have 2 B&B's listed here that have been closed for years - 12 & 5 years! And even if you do not advertise to post reviews there, someone will - eventually. It is there and people will find it if they want to!!! And as CL mentioned, they do not even need to stay with you to do so... There are several other places where people go to write reviews as well and Google compliles them in their list of reviews.... Most do not provide a way for a Mgr response though... so I guess that we should be 'thankful' that the lesser of the evils has made their way to the top?!!!

We also send a thank you, but with a link to B&B.com I'm not messing with TA. You have little or no control over the reviews posted there.

Another plus is that you save 5$ for every month a new review is posted. I do send folks there when I know they booked from that site.
