Well the rumors are correct. I just got the email that Webervations has been sold to RezOvation, which means that they are now owned by BedandBreakfast.com which means the rate will go UP.

I am not pleased. Soon it will be a package you MUST use them (BandB.com) for all these things. Webervations kept it simple.

I'm safe for a year as I just paid my bill, but I will change when the price goes up.
Right now I am using a site for my wine tours that is free since I don't ask for credit card info to book them (I make them send a depsit check). I have been using them for 6 years and they are great. You use their site to design your form. The bookings are emailed to you just like Webervations.
They also have samples showing B&B bookings where the cc info is secured. I am not sure, but it looks like it is just under or just over $100 per year.
It is very basic - just the reservation. No bells and whistles that Webervations was starting to get into, but I just want the reservations. My reservation software can do all my reports.
If you want to check it out, the, site that I use free for my tour bookings is http://www.formsite.com/
Again, it's free as I don't take any cc info for the tours. If you want to see what it looks like in action, go to my website and click on "book a wine tour". I'm sure it could look better than mine but at least it was easy enough for me to make it work.

This looks like something I would like to create and use for a particular instance. Looked at it, but not sure I can get it set up. Might have to ask you a question later. Thanks for sharing.

It takes some fiddling with, and was updated recently, but I finally got it to work. It has been flawless for me for 6 years so if Eric ups the rate for Webervations I'll go here.
I believe he'll add bells and whistles so he can charge more, when all I want is to use if for reservations, period.
This company will, I think, do the same and it's just reservations.

Yours is just a reservation form...from what i see on your website. It doesn't show availability nor can someone make an actual on line reservation with it. You have to do it yourself and then confirm. :-(
I clicked on the Reserve a Tour link here: http://www.arcadyvineyard.com/Reservations.htm and got a file not found..so you may want to recheck this one.

It is actually the other way around, Webervations started 2 years after us, as a copycat to our system and approach.

Thanks - we will check yours out! There are many of us here who just want a reservations system and nothing more - something affordable. We already have our reservation systems on our computer and don't want the expensive on-line systems as we don't want the risk of losing all our data or trusting all our data to someone else.

If you can hang on for a few months til many of us are in need of renewing Weberv and we see what BandB.com is doing with it. It might work out well for you.
I am such a control freak, I do not like anyone having their hands in my business - SLAP!! So the more BandB.com gathers up in its nest the more I want to go the other way. I am not the only one who feels this way. We work darn hard and want to keep control. I guess we also need to see where this frequent stay prgm is taking us - sometimes I feel hijacked. Kidnapped? Is that a good word frm the other thread?

As a nwecomer to this business, it would be perfect for them to open and have everything consolidated under one directory. In fact, sheesh why bother having your own website, put all your eggs in one basket. LOL

Thankfully, we aspirings here have a marvelous advantage: ALL OF YOU!!! We know better than most and a lot more than we think we do about what works and what doesn't.
I know I've said this before, or at least emoted this before: I am very grateful for all of you who let us learn from your mistakes...you guys are all great.

Had a lengthly conversation with JohnB today. As of now Webervations is going to stay the same - (for now but will be improved down the pike (after the dash is my comment) as I am sure the price will be as we know the thinking there and am NOT taking a pot shot with this statement). Also asked if bandb. membership would be required to have Webervations and the answer was no, will not be required. Naturally nothing was said about price. Just letting you know what was said and told him I was going to report so am not going behind any backs.

A question regarding availabilityOnline.com. Is your tool able for multilingual displays ? (From what I've seen from your demo, it is not the case but prefer to confirm !). Our specific location adresses either french or english people. If not, could be a good idea to think of it to reach new markets (Canada / France).

You can also use some useful tools to check broken links on your website.
http://validator.w3.org/checklink (use option check link with a recursion depth of 10. Should be sufficient). You still have one invalid link http://www.arcadyvineyard.com/www.charlottesvilletourism.org
http://www.linktiger.com (I just discover this tool but worth to test it) inform you on regular basis if there is new broken links
Hope it helps

There have been a lot of posts on the PAII on this. I'd rather not copy the entire forum since it is specific/private to PAII members and I don't feel I have the right to just cut and paste things that people may want private, but I can put in the post by David since I had it emailed to me anyway.

Webervations Hello everyone, David here. As you can imagine, with the recent change of ownership here at Webervations, I've been reading all of these posts and thought I would jump in with my two cents worth. I don't plan on posting any follow-ups or getting involved in the back and forth, but I do have a few opinions on the subject.
What Eric and John are talking about here is pretty much right-on. I had to make some tough decisions and figure out what would be best for my customers. If anyone thinks I am understating my effort on this product, they are wrong, and it has only been getting worse. The times have changed from ten years ago with technology, security and all sorts of things that innkeepers seem to gloss over because they don't have to deal with them like I do, or Eric does. I couldn't keep this pace up working through the night every night and sleeping at my office, and I couldn't afford to hire more people either. You innkeepers all run pretty small staffs - imagine if you had to go out and employ 7-8 people, some very specialized, overnight - what do you think that would do to your costs? I don't think anyone could keep this going on their own - and there were plenty of other companies who could have purchased the company and picked up the torch, but they didn't want to. Eric and BBcom/rezo is in this business for good, which is one of the reasons I thought they would be the best fit to take this product forward.
Truth is I have not raised the price on this product since I launched it and I sometimes can't help but think I might have spoiled you guys. I can assure you had I not sold it and tried to keep it going, I would have had no choice but to raise the price to keep it alive. You may not all like every decision Eric makes, but not every innkeeper knows the ins and outs of software and development. What rezo has done is pretty impressive, especially at the prices. I know - I'm a programmer - and I understand how hard this stuff is to keep up. Don't even get me started on what a pain things like credit card processing or GDS stuff can be. It has always frustrated me that certain innkeepers seem to think these services should be so cheap because I don't think innkeepers really put the right value on this stuff. Maybe it is because we were more focused here keeping up the software than trying to figure out how to make any money on it really at all, but that can't last forever.
So I think Eric's company is going to do a great job with this. They know what they are doing, and they are doing it well. A few years ago I might not have felt that way, but based on what they have done with Rezovations Gt and how much they lowered pricing, a lot has changed. I'd be pretty disappointed if customers suddenly switched to one of the vulture companies that swooped down upon this so quickly spamming Webervations customers and posting on PAII like Webervations was dead meat when the new owners are going to live up to keeping my company, system, and employees still going. Those companies in my view either charge a lot for what you get, or don't have half the features you need that are in Webervations and the question is why do they think they are any better now than they were last week?
Well anyway, you can take my opinion for what it is worth, but hopefully after a decade of providing this service it is worth something!
