Especially for those folks on the forum who are aspiring innkeepers. We get this question a lot. Or something else like "oh, now you have the rest of the day to yourself once the guests leave".
Here are a few of the many hats DH and I have worn in the last 24 hours:
  • chef/baker
  • host
  • dishwasher
  • housekeeper
  • concierge
  • wedding coordinator
  • reservations clerk
  • wedding photographer
  • wedding officiant
  • answering service
  • plumber
  • gardener
  • travel guide
  • graphic designer
  • social media guru
  • webmaster
  • web designer
  • amateur psychologist
  • accountant
  • waitress
  • banker (a guest wants us to hold a room for them with no deposit for 14 days until they get paid)
  • mediator
I'm sure others out there can add to this list. By the way, this is not an unusual 24 hour period.

Add petsitter to that list. I've had a few innsits with dogs now - I had forgotten how much time and attention they can require.

  • travel blogger
  • restaurant taste tester
  • launderer
  • wife, mother, daughter, aunt, sibling (things it is hard to be at times)
  • magician (We booked a room with one bed, but we need a room with two beds; or a room on the first floor, or away from the street, etc. We want to eat at x but they say they have no open seating, they'll have one for you, right?)
  • archaeologist (We left a phone charger in the room, don't know what room, the charger is black. This is always the person who didn't make the reservation and whose name we don't have on file.)

At the retreat I worked at prior, we got this every weekend. First they would comment on the lovely landscaping, delicious meals (3 a day), clean rooms, etc.
Duh? We thought but we said, "Oh, on Monday and Tuesday we clean all the buildings. Wednesday is our day off. Thursday is shopping and lawn care. Friday is cooking and baking. Then there is the farm work and the petting zoo....

No guests last night so it's our morning 'off.'
Take trash to the dump
Mail the 5 items of clothing left in the room to their owner
Meet with the contractor for a bid on upgrading two bathrooms
Contact the neighbor about how people are using his driveway and ours as a new road
