I can only ask that if you have a sense of humor and are able to enjoy funny guests. But also memorable, you can laugh about it now!
We tend to label them for posterity's sake and can recall them by their labels, for example "Mr Ten Towels" or "The Assassin"

There are tons of them. One of the most heart-wrenching, tho, was the guy who wrote a play based on 9/11 and he did a reading from the play in our living room to an audience of one. (I missed it, but he gave us a copy of the play.) Hubs still talks about it.
Of course, there were the 'Granny Undies' and the 'Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer' for funny/weird/how strange can people be stories.

The most memorable would be a man who ate a watermelon for breakfast before I started serving breakfast. He then ate everything I served. The other one was a man who trimmed his beard hair at the dining table and left the trimmings in a bowl on the table for me.

We have had so many who were memorable for different reasons. One was the lady who told us about post-polio syndrome and after dealing with it for several years we were able to lift the "weight of the world" from the shoulders of another repeat guest who told me of her horrible year of falling for no reason and just in conversation mentioned she had polio when she was 6 but had no effects of it. Yes, you did. That is what is wrong. She has since written that she is now involved in a post-polio support group. Then there was the "howler" - they met in the middle until Mama died (in her 90s) and then they got married and no longer had to meet here (fortunately they were never here when anyone else was).
The horse guys from Tuesday night will join the most memorable non-guest list!

I think it would be the time I had "captain kangaroo" & the "escort". Yup...he looked like the captain, and she was definitely a professional. Not the street walker type, but a little higher class. Thank goodness our rooms are all very private!

I was telling a couple innkeepers last week about "The Prophet" who stayed with us year one. He arrived in full entourage with young lads carrying his belongings to his room - walking before and behind him. He was a special speaker at a graduation for a "school of the prophets" which is a kind of seminary. They called him "the Prophet" that was not a nickname I gave him either.
Funniest part of course, was when the call came in from the school (which I didn't know existed) and "the Sisters" wanted to book a room for "the Prophet" and I was unsure how to respond to that.
In case any one is wondering, he ate his eggs and drank his coffee like the rest of us non-profits, ahem, non prophets and didn't turn his water into wine.

(PS This might have been when I first googled a guest to see what the heck they were about!)

I wanted to add that the guest stories are the best part of innkeeping in this innkeeper not so humble opinion. That is something I will be able to take with me and enjoy forever. I often forget about who has been here and how it was, so this thread is a good reminder. Enjoy your guests - no matter how kooky they may be!

The most memorial guests would be The Sopranos... They over took the inn. Their helpful suggestions (on everything) was passive-aggressive and manipulative. They complained about the prices. They were loud, rude and obnoxious in a group (mob behavior)
They came, they stayed, they left.

And no-buddy got hurt.

I don't know that we've had really funny guests yet ....really nice folks, many memorable. No "Mr. Ten Towels" stories yet....

Oh God .... Don't get me started ...... The guests that made me cry, the guests that will be friends for life, the guests that challenge me, the guests that TRULY let me be me, the guests that think that they are getting the real "me" but are getting what they need ... and then there is the guest that was SO bad, we will never let anyone of the same name ever stay with us again.

LOL - no that wasn't me, but it sounds like a great story !!!!!
Mine was the "12 soft apples, 15 semi-soft pears, gentle wash, dye and scent free detergent with a short drying cycle and instructions on how to fold his laundry ....."

Our most wonderful memorable guests are now dear friends of ours. After having them stay with us several times, we started taking them out to dinner and really getting to know them. They live 5 1/2 hours away from us so we don't see them often. We developed a wonderful friendship and this past October the 4 of us traveled together to Germany for our vacation. We had a wonderful time!

After reading those I'm kinda sorry that my guest interaction might be limited by having cabins.
KINDA.

Remember the gal from Australia who used to post? She had cabins, she had stories!

that was Christy. She also said that cleaning cabins was another whole ball of wax after innkeeping - a lot more work. But hers were very upscale, and I don't know what yours are.
Personally, if I were getting involved with cabings and stoves I'd sure make sure the ovens were self cleaning, or just stick with microwaves!

Then of course there is our great Poobah of this forum - he has cabins as well. Min stay periods, serves breakfast to all, not indiv rooms.
We rent a cabin with full kitchen and there is of course a hefty cleaning deposit. We are requried to clean everything and leave it as we found it or lose the dep. (This innkeeper left it better than she found it).
In Christy's case people didn't care and in the Aussie's - they would gladly forfeit the dep to not clean up , and they regularly trashed the place. It is a diff mindset - and depends totally on how you market these cabins, imo.
Aussie gave them the tour or check in info with key and was OFF the property. Being on the property is a HUGE difference in how the guests treat things.

Good point about self cleaning ovens... I'll have to put that on my check list for my next visit!
I'm not sure what very upscale means but I think mine are a bit more rustic in decor. Nice furniture but kind of Texas chic - painted furniture but in bold colors, primary hues, brightly colored plates, bandana prints. Doesn't work for me personally but it fits the area which is close to the "Cowboy Capital of the World" and it would be cheap to maintain.
Actually, there are three places vying for that title, the one I'm talking about has hills.
