Not airlines, just which company would you use to make a reservation- Expedia, Priceline, Orbitz, Travelocity?
And does it seem possible that I can go coast to coast for $170? What am I missing here?

Travelocity...never roam alone.

Yes fly tues or wed and stay over a weekend/Saturday and get the good fares on travelocity. Nice part if they include the total fare with tax. BUT after you find one there go to THAT airlines website and see if they have a comparable, they will have better policies.
Don't think you have SW, but they have no cancellation fees, nor change fees.

I am going on whatever airline through whatever booking service my cousin chooses to use. I am prepared to take my turn peddaling......

We have used Expedia & Travelocity mostly but it is not a bad idea to look at all of them. I will not however, ever use the best deal thing Priceline does...you know the one that you get the best rate and buy BEFORE knowing exactly what you bought from whom.
What am I missing here?
The plane, a seat, the pilot maybe? If this is real, book me a flight too. Edited this to say - well I did a quick search And I stand corrected: Jet Blue had flights from JFK to San Diego for $164. We have flown J. B. a couple of times and they are reasonable if you can get a direct flight. So I guess it would depend on where you are flying from & to....

Not going RT, breaking the trip up. Lovely. Means I'll be on every terror alert out there. ONE WAY TICKET!!! NOT COMING BACK!!!
Anyway.

I looked at all the sites...Expedia, Travelocity and Priceline. Priceline had the best price and there was nothing hidden. It showed what airlines I would be using. The other sites like Expedia and Travelocity had the same flight but for $100s more. Not sure how Priceline can discount it but it worked for me, the flight was fine and I would use them again in the future.

Part II- What's your favorite Vegas hotel?.
Never been but just saw a special on Food TV and evidently Ceasar's has both a Bobby Flay restaurant and a reproduction of the famous Rao's from NYC. So I would stay there so I wouldn't have to go far to stuff my face

Never use any of them. I do check them but when I do my final reservation it is always directly with the airline.

You are going to Vegas? Yeah... Ya know..I was actually thinking about there myself. I am feeling better and if it keeps up...I was thinking that might be a nice trip. I am thinking The Venetian or Bellagio. Been watching too much Wheel of Fortune :)

Toss up- Bellagio or Wynn.
BTW, the Wynn does a B&B package. You know how much your 'breakfast coupon' is valid for at the buffet? After which they charge you more. Take a guess.
$85/day.
I think I'll find a diner.

We were out there maybe 5 years ago and one time about 5 years before that. Once for work, once for family. I didn't like Vegas at all, honestly, although I bought my favorite painting in the whole world there at an art gallery. I'm not a gambler and the whole casino thing was too smoky, too noisy, too crowded. We amused ourselves the first trip with tigers and dolphins at the Mirage, but now they charge you for that like a day at Disney.
The legend was that the food was cheap but our experience is that it was only cheap for the buffets which were mob scenes and not-great food. Lots of the celeb-chefs are out there now and have good restaurants, but they're pricey. Now, since Vegas is hurting financially there may be deals to be had.
I prefer to fly Southwest because I find them a lot easier to deal with, but they aren't on any of the discounters' websites.

We are not gamblers either. Spent a week in Reno and never lost a quarter :) I guess I would just like the experience of seeing it once in my life sometime.

When we had to go the second time, my friends said - you'll love it! It takes a second trip to really like Vegas. No, didn't work for us. But lots and lots of people love it - just not me. Give me NYC any time.

I don't like Vegas, either. My parents will be there. Otherwise I wouldn't go.

Hm, put this in the food allergies/restrictions thread of the flying thread? decisions decisions...

I do a combination of all the consolidators (expedia, travelocity, kayak, orbitz, etc), then I go on the airline's website. If I can get the same rate on the airline site, I'll make my reservation there. I like doing a Kayak search because they don't take the actual booking, they will link you over to the airline site and all your info will already be entered.
Most of our flight travel is done with frequent flyer miles since we charge EVERYTHING either on our United cards, 1 for business and 1 for personal. It makes traveling a bit easier financially when we get FF tickets. All our utilities, insurance, etc....I wish I could figure out how to get my mortage charged without having to pay fees! LOL

i was in Vegas last weekend and we stayed at the Mandalay Bay. It was nice but seemed pretty quiet. I don't go to Vegas very often so maybe that is the way it is but we felt a bit lonely in the huge casino by ourselves. The place was great so if you want a casino to yourself maybe it is a good choice hahaha.
