Last March when we refurbished one of the rooms I bought new curtains, they're a little too long and flop over the bed head and on the other window onto the dressing table, not by much, not enough for me to care. We're not going to get a bad review because of it.
Ever since, DH has said we must get them taken up. He's nagged me for the past 10 months and I kept saying it's not an issue, if you want it done do it yourself.
When does he decide to do it? Friday, one of the busiest weekends of the winter and of course the shop is short staffed because of illness and can't do the 2 hour service and say ready Tuesday. DH has to cajole them into getting them done by Saturday afternoon so they're back for guests arriving yesterday. Friday night I'm thinking I'm going to be so mad if someone knocks on the door and have to turn them away, luckily they didn't.

I've been in the position of hoping something bad happened, just so I can say, I told you so. Known as cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Glad it all worked out and the problem is fixed. So this time HE gets to say, I told you so.

I still get to say .."You've had 3 months to do this!!!"

My hubby has figured out that if he stickers it to the door I will see it every time I come into our private quarters and eventually it will get done. Seems to be working. I finally got tired of seeing the Make Soap Labels note and whipped them out. Took me two weeks of seeing the note and about ten minutes to get the laminator out and actually make them.

But truth be told no handicapped person has ever stayed overnight here. Now we have a reservation next month requesting a handicapped room so we are set with our ramp, sink, toilet, toilet bars, and walk/roll-in shower with grab bars! Our only limitation is that the room doors are not the required width (close though) to advertise it as fully handicapped accessible. Don't know how I missed that when we were building since I was just out of that type of situation myself.
After reading the archived post about towel racks and grab bars, it's kind of scary! Anyone know how that situation turned out?

I cleaned and re-organized the basement this weekend. We were completely full, but almost everyone was staying at least 2 nights, so that made things easy for me after folks were checked-in. I'm pleased with the outcome. I'd been wanting to do it for a couple of months.

My storage room will get its semi-annual empty out and re-stack in March when the first family of kids come in. When the second wave comes in April, my kitchen will get repainted. When the cop & fireman come in I am getting new storm doors on the front and kitchen. I think the attic climb will have to be done by the second wave as the fireman tore out his knee in December. The 2 grandsons are younger - need tubs of papers brought down for shredding and a couple of boxes brought down that I now have room for the contents since I gave away the dolls. Slave labor is wonderful - especially when they come asking what can they do.

We are starting to pack and paint some rooms getting ready to sell the house. We have lived here for 29 years, now that is a long time!

Yup! I was a slave labour for years for my grandparents and uncles/ aunts. Now I'm reaping the benefits of our labour as I work here at the B&B.

Are you on permanently now then? When you first came here it seemed like you are visiting and helping out. I hope it all works out for you and for them, as you are here gleaning knowledge from this cantankerous lot (yes I include myself in that).

So you are now a long term permanent looking ahead to the next season planning your life around the inn innkeeper?

Mac installed grab bars in the shower today. We've had them in a box for over a year. Google makes everything so easy, except for supplying motivation and time.
Anyone know how that situation turned out?.
Just a word of caution about handicap and door width. We had a couple, one in wheel chair, early on in our cottage. Without mentioning it to us they took the door off the bathroom, wrecked the hinges and left black scuff wheelchair marks over the entire floor, including the shower. I was hours getting the black marks up and hubby had to repair the door so it was fit to be rehung.

All wheelchairs are not the same size. Himself is scrawny so HIS wheelchair (for the times he needs it) will go through (barely) these 103 year old doorways. IF he were to be a "wide load" there is no way. Find out the widest they make the chairs to adjust doorways. Remember Murphy - if you say you are ADA (meaning wheelchair accessible) you had best be able to take the widest to prevent a lawsuit up the road (they SAID they were but MY chair could not get through).
