$51/night to park my car! $319/night for the room. HIE. Not even a posh place. I've got a great view of a cement wall.

Ridiculous...you must be in SF!

They could have at least painted a beautiful scene for you on the wall!
Hey! I got free parking, a covered hibernated pool, walk to all attractions, and the room has an ensuite private bath. Sorry the room that faces the neighbor's brick wall full of windows is already booked. Its a hot room since its our lowest price room.

No kidding! we paid over 300 a night for a tiny room in a very noisy house. (In Napa - off season.)

That is when I find someplace else to visit. I will not pay these outrageous kind of charges. Probably why we just stay in our beautiful valley and enjoy it like all the other tourists that come here.

Unless you come to visit us. Then those outrageous charges will disappear! :)

We used to worry a little about our rate, but as expensive as it is, it is still under our associated market rate. We did have to pull back from our rate increase this year after the market switched from long term back to short term.

Confession time... I'm not even sure I would pay MY own rate.

Me, too. It kills me to pay crazy rates and not even have an 'experience' to show for it. Now, I did pay $250 22 years ago to stay in a castle, but that was an experience. And we still talk about it.

I think most of us do offer an experience. Not a castle, but we are used to our homes.
Mine has an ocean view. I don't take it for granted, but I am used to it.
If you live in Ohio, you don't get an ocean view, so my house gives you that ocean breeze on the front porch thing that you can't get in Ohio.
That goes for in the woods, in the city or by the lake. We seek what we don't have to relax and experience.

Several years ago I stayed at a B&B in Ireland in a castle, and will never forget it. And it wasn't even a real castle. It was the old county jail that LOOKED like a castle, but to me, it was a castle and I was the lord of the place. Experience certainly is the word, and perception.

It wasn't really a castle, more of a Manor House. Still. It had a minstrel's gallery, turrets, a dungeon. We fell for it!

It reminds me of Stan Hywet Hall near Akron, Ohio. It was the home of the Seiberling family (Goodyear Rubber) and it is wonderful. They bought entire rooms from castles and manor houses. When the parents died, the children were not in a financial position to maintain it so they donated it to a non-profit - taking only their personal possessions. the daughter moved to the gate house. They left furs, gold comb & brush sets, jewels, dishes, silver - everything was left as it was the day their Father died. You cannot stay there, but the tour is worth a stop and the gardens are fabulous.

and this is where this venue is missing a trick in my opinion - http://www.ripleycastle.co.uk/
its a family home - does weddings but all have to stay in the pub which is attacked to the castle across the yard - its a big place id have some totally premium bedrooms in there but that's me. I can see the other side of it that its their home as well and they need a bit of privacy some times as well.
